Upcoming Meeting: Wednesday, October 13th, 7:30 p.m. at Church of the Redemption, Towson & Clement Sts.

ello everyone,

As the summer comes to a close, I would like to remind everyone of some of the events that will be occurring in our

neighborhood. First, the Locust Point Festival will be occurring on September 11. Festival day is one of my favorites in the neigh-borhood. Of course there will be plenty of delicious food from local restaurants, games and crafts for the kids, and great music from some talented local musicians. I hope to see all of you out and enjoying the day with us.

More importantly, please help us out by volunteering on fes-tival day at one of the many booths or assisting with either set up or clean up. Without volunteers, the festival is in jeopardy of not being all that it can be. Please take some time out and volunteer.

The weekend of September 11 also marks Defender's

Day. The folks at Fort McHenry pull out all of the stops every year to make this a fun and festive event. Since this event brings people from all over to Locust Point this is a great time to show off our neighborhood.

The summer has been somewhat busy regarding develop-ment. The LPCA board met with the leaders of McHenry Row and we were shown renderings of the project. The management of Southside Shopping Center is also planning some upgrades. Tide Point presented the community with some renderings of some minor changes to the area, which the neighborhood approved dur-ing the August general meeting.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the festival, either as a volunteer or a visitor.

Better yet, please join the walkers to point out specific problems and address your issues directly with a police officer. Monthly email reminders are sent out with the meeting spot for the upcoming walk and are also listed in the “In Brief” section of the newslet-ter on page 3. The studio is run by three minority female entrepreneurs. Classes are held in six-week sessions. Group and pri-

vate dance lessons as well as fitness classes for people of all ages and skill levels are available. Students can practice what they have learned in class during regularly held practice parties and socials at the studio. Classes include Salsa, Hip Hop, Ballet, African Dance, Belly Dance, Zumba and many more. A complete listing of classes as well as short biographies of the studio’s instructors can be found at www.baltimoresalsalessons.com. In addition to dance and fitness classes, BSDC provides studio space for dance or fitness instructors looking for practice space. The studio can also be rented for social and corporate events during off hours. Additionally, the studio pro-vides wedding packages as well as dance wear that may either be purchased from studio affiliates or ordered to be custom-made by BSDC.

It is open to anyone in Locust Point with kids of any age. Our group home page is http:/groups.yahoo.com/group/locustpointkids. Just send an email to [email protected]. You can use the list to organize play dates, meet other parents, trade information on childcare, pediatricians, schools, kid-related events, etc. Don’t worry about privacy, your email address and messages are not public and can be seen only by other members.

Stories and photos wanted - To The Point welcomes sub-missions of stories and photos (current and nostalgic) by neighbors. If you have something you’d like to submit, please send items to [email protected] (photos must be in .jpeg or .tif format). To The Point does not print Letters to the Editor or editorials. We espe-cially like stories that share information about what’s going on in our neighborhood or city.
