1969 QUOTE FROM THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL

ADMINISTRATORS Schools are being asked to contribute more to the resolution of

an ever-growing number of complex social, economic and political problems.

Technology in the classroom is not a new concept.

The questions are the same:

how will this benefit my students?

how much time will it take

am I comfortable using and teaching this?

how is this beneficial to the curriculum?

TECHNOLOGY ON CAMPUS

One should always consider technology as a

vehicle for enhancing education.

The focus is shifting to the role of discovery in the

learning process and to action generated by the learner

(Perelman, 1992).

ADMINISTRATOR’S ROLE

it is critical that administrators form a vision of the role of technology on their campus.

Once administrators form a vision, they must articulate that vision to all stakeholders

The students ultimately benefit from this “extra work”.

ADMINISTRATOR’S ROLE (CONTINUED)

What if teachers are hesitant?

The administrator must help those who feel it is too much work or will not benefit the students.

The administrator has not successfully articulated his or her vision.

FOCUS

it is important that administrators focus primarily on the benefits that can come from using technology in ways that support individual and campus growth.

A “neat program” does not justify campus-wide implementation.

Administrators should explore the benefits to the students and the campus.

LEADERSHIP AND VISION:

I participate in an inclusive district process through which stakeholders formulate a shared vision that clearly defines expectations for technology use.

I help develop a collaborative, technology-rich school improvement plan grounded in research and aligned with the district strategic plan.

LEARNING AND TEACHING:

I help teachers use technology to access, analyze, and interpret student performance data and the results to appropriately design, assess, and modify student instruction.

I promote, among faculty and other staff, highly effective practices in technology integration. (Brooks-Young, p.6)

SURVEY OF QUESTIONS:

The questions in the previous two slides are an instrument to help administrators formulate a vision of the role technology plays in the education and professional development of all stakeholders involved.

Page 10: Two page paper pp

When administrators create their own ideas of the importance of relevant technology on their campuses, they are better able to communicate that vision to their staff and students.
