The Atlanta Master Chorale is always interested in hearing from experienced singers with excellent sight-reading skills and the ability to blend in a choral setting. Our season runs from August to May. If you are passionate about choral music and looking for a challenging, satisfying choral experience, we would love to hear you!
Auditions for the 2017-18 Season will be held August 5, 12, and 19 at the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts. For more information, please visit our website atAT L A N TA M A S T E R C H O R A L E . O R G ,or request additional information [email protected].
We’ve all seen them. People who look like a friend or family member. Same nose; same eyes; similar smile. A definite resemblance, but not a carbon copy. After looking a second time, the differences become clear—the hair is not the same; neither is the sound of the voice or the way the person stands. With more than six billion inhabitants on this spinning globe, double takes are waiting around every corner.
Music is no different. We listen to the radio and are surprised to hear a song we love being sung by a different artist. The more popular the song, the more likely that someone will come along and remake it. In the world of choral music, great melodies and texts have been used and reused by composers over the span of centuries, often with startlingly different results. Join us as we explore pairs of these contrasting pieces. Some you may know, and others you’ve only begun to hear.

Christmas connects past to present, sounds to memory, music to spirit. It unites us in shared expectancy. We wait together for the birth of a promise; of new life, peace and joy. We celebrate together the coming of the light, sing together carols of the season, listen in wonder to the song of the angels. Travel with us as we journey to the manger in Bethlehem and experience once again the beauty of Christmas.

Tens of thousands of choirs rehearse each week all around the globe. Choral singing through the ages, with its mysterious grip on our hearts, has brought together untold millions in search of a common harmony and satisfying rhythm and cadence to life. It’s simply what we do; what we love; how we add beauty to this world. Each measure, each note, each melody proves that voicestogether, shoulder to shoulder, can create a unique bond and a powerful vision of sound. Choirs faithfully employ the building blocks of creative expression, doing our part to make communities more beautiful, and thereby stronger and able to cope and to hope and to create. Join us as we share the stage with the incredibly talented Michael O’Neal Singers and Spivey Hall Children’s Choir, as we all sing toward a stronger community and a more beauty-filled future.

The Exodus. A story which pre-dates our modern calendar. Handel’s Israel in Egypt tells the story of the epic journey of the Israelites from captivity by the Pharaohs of Egypt to the crossing of the Red Sea and deliverance from bondage. For hundreds of years, listeners have been delighted, fascinated, and transfixed by Handel’s grand and sweeping array of choruses, arias and masterful orchestrations portraying one of the best known and dramatic tales in human history. Messiah may be Handel’s most famous oratorio, but Israel in Egypt is in every way its equal in drama, musical invention, and sheer genius.

civ.il‘siv( )ladjective: civil1. relating to ordinary citizens and their concerns (of disorder or conflict) occurring between citizens of the same country.
It was the war which defined who we would become as a country. A war of ideas and ideals. Of what we had been as colonies and what we could become as a nation. It laid bare our divisions and forged our path towards becoming a more perfect union. In this very special concert, Atlanta Master Chorale will be joined by master storyteller Tom Key, Artistic Director of Theatrical Outfit, for an evening of songs of the Civil War—of North and South, Blue and Gray, Battlefield and Home, Slave and Free. The songs and spirituals will be presented alongside poetry and contemporary letters that offer a glimpse into the struggle of our nation more than 150 years ago. Join us as we remember how far we’ve come, and the work which still lies before us.
