The Essay Question:

In your opinion, how can the print newspaper continue to survive with today’s digital

technology?

“Unfortunately, I do not see the newspaper companies cutting their sales and then eventually going digital. Once the

generation of people that do prefer the hard copy gets smaller the profit will be no more and the newspaper companies will be

forced to close or go digital….I do not see this happening anytime soon, at the earlier seven to ten years.”

“Print media is changing, but it will still have an effect on everyone in the United States. Newspapers are something that will never run out of batteries…What is better than a Sunday morning with a cup of coffee and your newspaper?...The newspaper industry has had it’s ups and downs. People everyday are becoming less interested with it. Everyone thinks the internet is faster and better, but in reality it isn’t. You don’t get the same pleasure from reading an article online than you do from reading the print copy. People today are too wound up in their phones or tablets.”

“So, how can the print newspaper continue to thrive in today’s world of digital technology? No doubt about it, the digital market is growing and changing faster than ever. Therefore, newspaper Publishers, Editors, and Journalists will need to think outside the

box, or should I say outside the column widths of their paper.”

“The print version of a newspaper is more specific, and it typically provides much more content with illustrations and

detailed information surrounding the story. One of many advantages is if someone sees a headline on the internet, or

hears about a story several days later, they can go back to the printed newspaper and fins the entire story. If newspaper

companies continue to offer an online edition of their printed versions of the paper then I believe that they can withhold their

revenue and popularity.”

“We must preserve our cultural connections to our printed paper. Writing a text is a form of art which comes to life by great

journalists who are employed by our fine newspapers. These journalists hold the key to our future. While online content can be increasingly superficial, glib, short on substance, and loaded with smug opinion and bias, fine journalism contains excellent

reporting and writing… Continue to be a well established newspaper that has columnists and credibility, allowing your

reporters to spend weeks researching a story, and paying photographers for the picture worth a thousand words. The print newspaper really can survive with the right employees to make it

happen.
