In the study of synthesis techniques [see fullpresentation in Synthesis & Counseling inAstrology, pages 5-407], startlingly simplifiedways of seeing the core need profile in life, thedevelopmental challenges, and the fulfillmentenergies emerge. –These three considerationgroups can lead you securely into the beginningof eloquent analysis for any horoscope!

First, we see the pervasive strength of the firstimpression focused through Hemisphereemphasis. For Stern it is to the North and to theWest: some strong unfinished business in theearly home and an over compensatory projectionout to the public, to anyone who will listen and acknowledge him.

Second, there is the overlay of the Sun-Moonblend. Stern will need to show strongadministrative energy within a solid structure, be part of a movement, an institution [others with the Sun-Moon Capricorn-Taurus blend: Conrad Hilton, Barry Goldwater, Simon Wiesenthal].

The Sun-Moon blend is modified by aspects tothe Sun or Moon: the Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune contacts with the luminaries present a complicated picture, which can be quickly resolved as ambition (the injection of Saturn in Scorpio opposed the Moon) to be achieved by enormous individuation, focused through his professional achievements (the quindecile of Uranus to the Midheaven), with some strong suppression/camouflage devices enforced (the Neptune positioning) .

In other words, you know that Stern absorbed alot of personal problems in his early home life and these are stoking the fires of individuation.

Third, I recommend that you put a little checkmark at the cusp of every House whose ruler isunder high developmental tension (includingperegrination). This gives you at a glance thematrix of social behaviors evolving within thehoroscope (see S&C, pages 225-268 especially).–For example, when the Ascendant ruler is underhigh developmental tension …or is retrograde(here, Mercury opposed by Uranus and squaredby Neptune), there will be difficulties to bediscussed in identity development. [Note howthese points of observation which can be made in2 or 3 seconds are all saying the same thing; weare just getting deeper and deeper into specificsas we prepare our presentation.]

Mercury also rules the 2nd: there is a strong,strong, highly nervous self-worth anxiety. Andthis relates to the 11th (under high developmental tension, through Neptune squaredby Uranus, and itself squaring Mercury), showing the anxiety about being lovable.

The Sun and Uranus are the parental rulers, andtheir tension is duely seen. –So we have insurmise: unfinished business in the early home,causing identity development problems, highself-work anxiety, and a pervasive sense of notbeing lovable, being push into overcompensationthrough rebellious (Uranus communication)personal affirmation through the profession,working through a camouflage to demandrecognition from the public at large. This istremendous over compensation!

We see Jupiter peregrine (unaspected), ruling the8th, part of the sexual profile (with the 5th).Mercury, under tension, rules the 5th. Togetherthese indications of tension will require our investigation about how sexuality might be focused within the developmental mix! --and, ofcourse, the wild-running Jupiter also rules the 7th, augmenting the enormous public thrust signaled by the western hemisphere emphasis.
