WhenthepHsensorisimmersedinasolution,adifferenceinpo-•tentialisformed,duetothehydrogenions(H+),betweentheglassmembraneandthesolution.Thisdifferenceinpotential,measuredinrelationtoareferenceelectrode,isdirectlyproportionaltothepHvalue(59.16mVperpHunitat25°C).

WhenaRedoxsensorisimmersedinasolution,anexchangeof•electronsoccursbetweentheoxidisedformandthereducedformofanelectrolyte.Theresultingvoltageistheoxidationreductionpotential.
