TYPE CHROMIUM DEPOSITS BUSHVELD
Geological features: chromite occurs at the base and intermediate areas of a layered sequence of mafia to ultramafic igneous nature.
Tectonic relationship: cratonic areas
Age of mineralization: Precambrian but appears to tertiary
Associated rock types: basic and ultrabasic rocks
Form of deposits: stratified and lenticular
Structure and texture: texture layering, scattered accumulation
ore minerals: chromite, ilmenite, pyrrhotite, pentlandite
Gangue minerals: olivine, plagioclase, pyroxene.
Weathering: chromites residual and alluvial soils
Control of mineralization: anostoxitas, and orthopyroxene mainly dunites
Tonnage and typical law: 20-60% chromium oxide III and reserves of 1 to several million MT.
