TYPEWRITER

The typewriter.

It is a mechanical, electromagnetic device with a set of keys that, when pressed, print characteristics of a document usually paper.

People using a typewriter called typists.

Since the late (XIX century) and for much of the (XX century), typewriters were indispensable tools in business offices.

But in the eighties word processors in personal computers almost completely they replaced typewriters.

E. Remington and Sons (then known as a manufacturer of sewing machines )

Remington started production of its first typewriter on May 1, 1873 in Ilion (New York)

Typewriters classes

Mitterhofer Nr. 1 (1864,Partschins)

First model 1864, Vienna: In this model Mitterhofer shows his first genial ideas as inventor of the typewriter. But he called it, hidden writing. And he wrote in his autobiography: "The failed".

Remington (1850 y1860 EE.UU)

THE FIRST TYPEWRITER WITH REAL COMMERCIAL SUCCESS WAS INVENTED IN 1867 BY CRISTOPHER SHOLES, CARLOS GLIDDEN AND SAMUEL W. SOUFE.

Crandall (1879, USA)

The Crandall is an ornate machine, is the first of its kind, writing visibly. Among collectors this piece goes through the typewriter most beautiful in the world.

Olivetti

Olivertti is the only Western Campania which manufactures mechanical typewriter, for all current models are electronic.

Gradually improved model, to see what was being written, and these, so called "typewriter visible, were sold for 1.895"

By 1920 the typewriter manual or mecanical had reached a more or less standard design.

Electric typerwriter

First typewriter electric, known typewriter using a wheel. (although not commercialized)

Until IBM introduced IBM Selectic which replaced the bars of types by a ball the size of a golf ball

How does it work? In this machine the work of raising the line Linotype and hitting the tape is carried by a carriage return mechanism and motor-driven right and the displacement of the roller at the end of the line.
