BATTLE OF THE ATLANTIC RESEARCH AND EXPEDITION GROUP2018 TRAINING CATALOGUE
U-552
INTRODUCTION
The Battle of the Atlantic Research and Expedition Group is pleased to publish the 2018 Training Catalogue in our first year as an SDI-TDI Training Facility. It is our intention to offer our members advanced SDI recreational specialty courses that have application to maritime archaeology and our historical expeditions, as well as the full range of TDI open circuit technical courses up to and including normoxic Trimix, and to do it at a very affordable price. Our pricing structure reflects the non-profit, 501(c)3 nature of the Group as an organization devoted to historical research and archaeological expeditions and our desire to provide a venue that allows our divers to improve their capabilities in support of these activities.
For more information about any of these courses, or to sign up, contact us at [email protected].
Fundamental Tenets of the BAREG Training Program• Team diving
• Thorough dive planning
• Rational decision-making • Equipment selection and placement • Dive planning factors • Gas selection
• Perfection in execution

NO-DECOMPRESSION COURSES
2
SDI Deep Diver Course
This course will provide the necessary training to plan and execute dives that are outside the range of depths that are experienced during an SDI Open Water Scuba Diver course, specifically beyond 18 metres / 60 feet and to a maximum depth of not greater than 40 metres / 130 feet. The courseplaces particular focus on gas planning and management, based on known consumption rates. This course is ideally taken in conjunction withthe SDI Wreck Diver Course.
Prerequisites: Minimum age 18; SDI Open WaterScuba Diver or equivalent.
SDI Dry Suit Diver Course
This course allows the student to develop knowledge and skills to properly use a dry suit, which is essential for diving in many of the cold-water locales visit by the Group.
Prerequisites: Minimum age 18; SDI Open WaterScuba Diver or equivalent.
SDI Wreck Diver Course
Exploring shipwrecks from the World War I and IIBattles of the Atlantic is at the heart of the Group. This course will teach members the equipment and techniques necessary for safelydiving these wrecks. This course is ideally takenin conjunction with the SDI Deep Diver Course.
Prerequisites: Minimum age 18; SDI Open WaterScuba Diver or equivalent. Divers must have a deep diver specialty certification or be able to provide proof of experience in order to dive deeper than 18 metres / 60 feet in this course.

TDI Nitrox Diver Course
This is the entry-level certification course for recreational divers wishing to utilize enriched air nitrox (EAN) as a breathing gas. The objective of this course is to train divers in the benefits, hazards, and proper procedures for using nitrox mixes from 22 through 40 percent oxygen content. This course or an equivalent is required for participation in allBAREG trips and expeditions.
Prerequisites: Minimum age 18; SDI Open WaterScuba Diver or equivalent.
Required equipment: TDI Student Manual (includedin course fee).
TDI Intro to Tech Course
This course introduces students to the world of technical diving. Its objective of this course is to familiarize students with technical equipment configurations, enhance open water diving skills (such as buoyancy, trim, and situational awareness), and to introduce students to advanced gas planning techniques within a no-decompression context. This course is strictly a no-decompression course; students are permitted to use enriched air nitrox (EAN) mixes, provided the gas mix is within their current level of certification.
Prerequisites: Minimum age 18; SDI Open WaterScuba Diver or equivalent; proof of a minimumof 25 logged open water dives.
Required Equipment for TDI Introto Tech Course
• ask and fins• uo anc compensator device with a low-pressure power inflator• Regulator ith su mersi le pressure gauge• lternate air source• eight s stem• Depth gauge and automatic ottom timer and/or dive computer• Exposure suit adequate for the training conditions• ompressed gas c linder• ompass• nife or cutting device• Rescue signal• Dr suit ith inflator hose• - foot reel • urface marker uo• late et notes• TD tudent anuals included in course fee)
Recommended Equipment
• Redundant air source cft pon bottle, 1st stage, 2nd stage, SPG)
• ight
Course fee: $150.00 per course. See page 2.
TECHNICAL COURSES
4
TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver Course
This course examines the use of EAN-21 through 100 percent oxygen for optimal mixes to a depth of 40 metres / 130 feet. The objective of this course is to train divers in the benefits, hazards and proper procedures for utilizing EAN-21 through 100 percent oxygen for dives not requiring staged decompression. Within the BAREG training curriculum, this course is always conducted in conjunction with the TDI Helitrox Diver course.
Prerequisites: Minimum age 18; TDI Nitrox Diver or equivalent; roof of a minimum of 25 logged open water dives.
TDI Helitrox Diver Course
The Helitrox course examines the theory, methods and procedures for planned stage decompression diving utilizing Helium in the breathing mixture. The objective of this course is to train divers how to plan and conduct a staged decompression dive not exceeding a maximum depth of 45 metres/150 feet. The most common equipment requirements, gear set-up, and decompression techniques are presented. Upon completion of the course, students will be certified to utilize Enriched Air Nitrox and Helium mixes with no greater than 20% He content and no less than 21% oxygen content. Within the BAREG training curriculum, this courseis always conducted in conjunction with the TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver course.
Prerequisites: Minimum age 18; certified as an SDI Advanced Diver (with Deep specialty) or TDI Intro to Tech or equivalent; certified as a TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver or equivalent. Student may be enrolled in both the TDI Helitrox and Advanced Nitrox course at the same time. Proof of 50 logged dives
TDI Trimix Diver Course
The TDI Trimix course provides the training required to competently and safely utilize breathing gases containing helium for dives that require staged decompression, utilizing nitrox and/or oxygen mixtures during decompression to a maximum depth of 60 metres/200 feet. The objective of this course is to train divers in the benefits, hazards and proper procedures of utilizing custom oxygen/helium/nitrogen mixtures as breathing gases. Gas mixes will not have any less than 18 percent oxygen (O2).
Prerequisites: Minimum age 18; minimum certification as a TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver and TDI Decompression Procedures Diver, or equivalent; proof of a minimum 100 logged dives.
All BAREG technical courses require a minimum of 2 students.
