49 Dino Ki Ultee Chaal, Dilli Hui Behal: U Turn Kejriwal
1. On joining Politics: It is the right of every Indian to enter politics, but in
Kejriwal's case, it is the hypocrisy that is striking. During the Anna Hazare
movement, the entire leadership of India Against Corruption rallied
against politicians and said that they would have nothing to do with
politics ever.
The Hindu (September 12, 2011): You will not float a political party?
Kejriwal: No, never. We don't need to get into the system to fight it. We
want to pressure the government and assert our rights as citizens. Everyone
who has a dream need not get into politics.
2. Use Anna Hazare-move ahead: Kejriwal dumped Anna at the first
chance after having gained the most mileage out of Anna Hazare’s IAC Movement.
Kiran Bedi has gone on record saying that Kejriwal ran away with all the funds, Facebook users and databases of IAC for AAP. When the Lokpal was finally passed, “we had the curious case of the Congress, BJP and
Anna on one side supporting the Bill while Kejriwal and Samajwadi Party were opposing it”, Kiran Bedi said. She reiterated it on January 17, 2014.
December 15, 2014 -The gloves were off when Kumar Vishwas called all
the supporters of the Lokpal (including Anna) traitors. Anna has been
highly critical of Kejriwal.

3. Government Formation in Delhi:
December 2, 2013- "I swear on my children there can be no tie-
up between us (BJP or Congress). We are fighting the election
against these scam-ridden parties,"-Arvind Kejriwal
December 14, 2014-"We are sticking to our decision (not to form
the government)"- Manish Sisodia
December 23, 2014- ”We are forming government because
people of Delhi want us to and take up the challenge thrown at us
by Congress and BJP"- Arvind Kejriwal

4. Ally Media becomes “paid” when it questions misdeed: It is said
that Aam Aadmi Party is a media creation. But when Kejriwal and the AAP
started coming out with one goof-up after another, the media had no
choice but to be critical. Kejriwal instead of pulling up his socks, decided
to attack the media full throttle.
March 14, 2014-Kejriwal claimed that Media has been bought
over.
On June 25, 2014 - On being asked a question on racial attacks on
African nationals, Somnath Bharti asked a reporter “how much they have been paid”.
5. Private planes bad only when others use them: Kejriwal vociferously protested the use of private planes for campaigning during Lok Sabha Elections 2014. However; in a U turn- on a visit to Gujarat for an election
rally (March 7, 2014) he used a chartered flight sponsored by a media group the very same day. This was followed by a sponsored Business
Class trip to Dubai recently.
6. Aam to Khaas Aadmi in just 49 Days- After they formed government, AAP leader in a TV covered move, came in the Metro and
autos for the swearing-in ceremony (December 28, 2013), but later quickly demanded SUVs. Kejriwal said he didn't want an official bungalow but made all arrangements to get one all the same.
(Kejriwal’s affidavit signed on June 7, 2013)
Bungalow
After Kejriwal was sworn in, the Delhi chief secretary wrote two letters, to the lieutenant governor and to the UD ministry, to allot type-VI houses with 4-5 bedrooms for the CM's use in the New
Delhi area.
In a letter written by Secretary to the Delhi CM, Rajendra Kumar, in
which he had requested that bungalows 6/7 and 7/7, belonging to the DDA, be given to Kejriwal. The letter is dated December 30,
2013.
The letter reads as such - "Honourable Chief Minister has requested
for allotment of House No. 6/7 and 7/7 at Bhagwan Das Road, New Delhi...Which belongs to DDA. It is requested that the same may kindly be made available to the government of NCT of Delhi, for
further allotment to the Chief Minister. Government of NCT of Delhi would be providing two type VI houses in exchange of the above
two houses."
Later, Kejriwal shifted into a five-bedroom house at Tilak Lane in
the Lutyen`s zone on February 01, which was allotted to him by the Urban Development Ministry. It is a type VI ground floor house.
7. Electricity- blame Discoms but make the consumer pay: AAP said that Delhi’s consumers have been getting inflated bills due to
malpractices by Discoms. AAP promises a reduction of consumers’ electricity expenditure by 50%. (Point 5, AAP Manifesto, 2013)
Rather than pursuing the Discoms for their malpractices, gifted
them with Rs 200 Cr subsidy from the public exchequer. Not only
this, the subsidy was also for only 400 Units
(Subsidy was given only till March 31, 2014 – normal tariff to apply
thereafter.)
No subsidy given to consumers on power consumption above 400
units.
Second subsidy:
February 12, 2014-"Delhi government decided to give a 50 per
cent subsidy to those who did not pay their bills from October,
2012, to April, 2013, (the duration of the AAP agitation to in Delhi)
and continued not paying till December. Moreover, any penalty on
bills would also be waived off," AAP minister Manish Sisodia told
reporters after the meeting.
On March 14, 2014- the Delhi government submitted an affidavit
in High Court stating that the AAP government did not allocate any
funds to finance the Rs 6 crores subsidies which it gave to those
who did not pay the electricity bill from October 2012 to May 2013.
- The lack of a fund will mean that no one will benefit from the
scheme now. (The Times of India)
March 18, 2014-Around 10 lakh people had signed AAP's petition
against power distribution companies during the agitation, only
24,000-odd consumers actually stopped paying their bills.

8. Referendum only when it suits Kejriwal: 'Mohalla Sabhas' were touted relentlessly for deciding upon issues by Kejriwal.. However, while resigning from the Government, the AAP did not find it important to take
the opinion of the people in account. (Point 3, AAP Manifesto,2013)
9. Call for regularizing unauthorized colonies and forget them-
(Point 14, AAP Manifesto, 2013)
Status: Did nothing to move forward in this direction.
10. Retracttion on Janta Darbar: Janta Darbar for people to have their grievances heard. ( January 11, 2014 Times of India)
Kejriwal’s U-Turn: The half-baked idea had to be scrapped just two days after it began. Grievances were asked to be posted online and via calls or
post.
11. U Turn on personal security cover: Will not take any security cover.
(Kejriwal’s affidavit signed on June 7, 2013)
Kejriwal’s U-Turn: Apart from security provided by Delhi Police, Uttar Pradesh Police allotted 30 personnel who will provide Z category security, which is the second highest security an Indian citizen can get.
12. Forgotten Promise of Security to Citizens: Kejriwal promised
increased security for ordinary Delhi citizen. Citizen’s Security Force that would install lighting and CCTVs. It was also promised by AAP that Police and security martyrs’
families will receive Rs 1 Crore compensation.
13. Women commando force will be formed in 100 Days
(Point 11, AAP Manifesto, 2013)
Not a word on this during 49 days and even after that.
14. Unorganized sector only a vote bank: The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party had promised to initiate steps to implement welfare schemes
for unorganised sectors workers but later Kejriwal said that there are many legal problems in regularizing them. (Point 21, AAP Manifesto,2013)
15. No MLA to get Lok Sabha ticket: Rakhi Birla and Kejriwal both contested.
January 4, 2014 (Firstpost) | February 9, 2014 ( NDTV)
We wonder what party ticket he contested on in Varanasi!
16. Reliability: Kejriwal has been so anti-establishment that when he finally
became the establishment (CM), it was one U-turn that he simply couldn't take. He continued to be anti-establishment and it was no surprise that he
quit. The running away from responsibility after making false promises continued even when after having taken much hyped train rides to Varanasi- Kejriwal took a flight back from there to Delhi after loosing the
Lok Sabha elections. Having promised the moon he never went back to the people of Benaras after that- so much for his accountability.
