Managers Profile:

Name: David Bentley

What is your football background? Played at school level to

U18s, 6 a side and Sunday Football.

How long have you been involved with Pennine Juniors? 6 years

How long have you been managing a team? Just started at U7s

but have previously managed other teams within the club and

am assistant manager with U10 Black.

What do you like most about managing a team? Every Saturday morning.

What do you find challenging when managing a team? Trying to organise U6s and U7

teams…

What has been your funniest/best/ most memorable moment? Playing in their first

tournament in March when they did really well. It was great to see their enjoyment.

Describe your team: A great set of boys.

What are you focusing on in training? Teaching individual skills to young players so they are

confident on the ball and then trying to get our team organised.

Tell us the best game to date and why: Unsworth so far as the team showed their potential

in the first half when they hold their positions.

What advice/tips would you give to young, up and coming footballers? Play as much as you

can, enjoy it and listen to the coaches.

Latest Match report: 02.02.13 L’boro Vs Pennine Black

In the first outdoor match since the Christmas break, Pennine got off to a flying start when

Kyle raced through the Littleborough defence in the first minute to put Pennine 1 – 0 ahead.

The team started really well with all players settling back into action very quickly and Seb

Kelly put the team 2 – 0 up half way through the first half.

Littleborough however showed their strength with Teddy having to react quickly a couple of

times in net as they tried to come back into the game. After a good period of pressure by

Littleborough, they scored twice before half time as we just lost a touch of concentration

and allowed there forwards to get in goal side.

In the second half, the team settled down again and started to offer more of a threat with

good runs by Humayl, Stanley, Harry and Seb in the second half, good defence play by Miles,

Seb and Thomas and Cayden and Muddasser both tried to link up play with the forwards in

the second half. Kyle also provided good cover as he took on a central midfield role in the

second half before reverting to a wider role as Pennine looked to find a winner. However,

both teams had to settle for a draw in a really good game. Well done boys.

Previous match reports:

17.11.12 Prestwich v Pennine Black

Pennine Blacks secured their fourth victory of the season and their first away win with a

gritty performance against Prestwich. This game had the potential to be very difficult for

Pennine as the team was under strength with 2 regular players absent, the weather was also

challenging and the pitch was inevitably very wet and muddy and in quite poor condition

which made for very heavy going for the lads.

Despite missing two players for this game, Pennine still had enough quality to field a very

strong team and started with a very solid and attacking formation as well as a strong

defence. In this game, the starting centre back pairing was Seb, Muddaser, and Teddy in

goals, which despite being a first time partnership formed a formidable defence, and on the

wings both Kyle and Harry have settled down into the wingback positions very well.

Despite going up the slope of the pitch and with the poor weather, Pennine made some very

good progress and immediately started to pass the ball around, and seemed to play with

much the same passion and determination they had done in their last game against

Radcliffe.

It didn’t take very long for Pennine to open the scoring, in the 2nd minute of the game a

thunderbolt of a shot by Miles, which was saved and parried out by the keeper, Kyle quickly

latched on to the loose ball and fired the ball past the keeper and into the back of the

net, to score a real poachers goal.

This goal was a signal for Pennine to settle down and go hunting for more goals, though it

seemed to inspire the home team who started to get into the game, so much so that

Pennine were lucky to still be in front when the Prestwich player placed the ball just wide of

Teddy’s post, a let-off for the away side.

Pennine did have their moments too, with Kyle, Miles, Stan & Harry linking up very well,

forcing a number of corners against Prestwich. Shots from Kyle, Miles, Harry, Stan, Seb,

Muddaser & Hamill all going wide or being saved by the Prestwich keeper who I have to say

kept Prestwich in the game with a solid performance.

The match was a very gritty game as the score-line suggests, especially in the second half

with Pennine & Prestwich having at least 4 shots on target, all being saved by the keepers,

with many others going just wide.

A thoroughly deserved win for lads after dominating the possession of the ball and turning

in a very mature, determined & focused performance. The boys can be very pleased with

their contribution in this game and should take this form into their next match next

weekend.

03/11/12 Pennine Black v Radcliffe Boro Bulls

The boys went into this match in a good vein of form following some terrific results recently

following a rocky start to the season, it has to be said the boys went into this match clear

favourites as this is the 3rd time this year the team has played Radcliffe borough, in fact this

match holds very special memories, as this was the first team the lads played as a team

earlier this year in Ramsbottom which Pennine won comfortably. The boys have never lost a

match to Radcliffe borough in previous meetings.

As the match kicked off it became very apparent that Radcliffe had improved significantly as

a team and for the first 5 minutes enjoyed some healthy possession of the ball, but for some

outstanding defensive play by Max & Seb & some inspiring keeping by Teddy Pennine could

of conceded a goal early on in the match, it wasn’t long though before Pennine got their

passing game going, and the wingers started to attack and stretch the Radcliffe defence

which in turn got the first goal, both the lads who played on the wings, Kyle & Harry did a

really good job and gave a very energetic performance, working has hard to defend as they

did attack, Radcliffe couldn’t cope with the wingers who are becoming quite deadly on the

flanks, Harry scoring once again putting in a man of the match performance, and Kyle

scoring another 5 after scoring 6 in the previous match! A special mention for Miles he

terrorised the Radcliffe defence with an extremely tenacious performance, he absolutely

worked his socks off to get in and around their defenders. Stanley also showed great

composure on the ball and made some mazy runs forward and even managed to score,

some excellent play by Muddasser who scored 2 poachers goals on the edge of the box, &

new boy Humayl managed to also get on the score sheet with a powerful guided shot, the

special goal came late on in the game when our keeper Teddy had some time as an outfield

player, not only did he keep a clean sheet he also scored a goal as well.

The whole team played really well, and the boys are really starting to gel as a team, the boys

have all worked so hard, on Saturday they could have easily given up and sat back and just

seen the game out after scoring a few, but they kept going right until the final whistle in

very challenging weather conditions. Unfortunately we only have 1 man of the match

award, because in this match we could easily have handed out 8.

27/10/12 Pennine Black v Roach Black

An additional game during the school holidays saw the Pennine squads stretched thin.

Roach started the game quicker that Pennine and the team found themselves two goals

down within the first 5 minutes. However, we slowly started to play and become stronger as

the first half went on. Eventually Pennine got their breakthrough when Teddy Bentley

finished off a move down the left. The game was brought back level in the last few minutes

of the first half when Harry finished well again, shooting across goal from the right hand

side. With no substitutes, everyone played their part in a hard fought game and a good run

out for the boys against an unbeaten Roach team.

20/10/12 Pennine Black v E&W Cheetahs

Pennine started from the off today, the first goal scored by Kyle Jones within 30 seconds,

which gave them the confidence to go and play some good football, showing good skill and

passing movement, highlighted by the third goal which saw Holt pick up the ball in midfield

and thread a pass forward for Harry Shepherd who had overlapped Cayden, and finished the

move with an unstoppable first time shot. Kyle continued in the way he had started the

game, scoring a double hat trick. The team are really progressing now and are much more

aware of their positions so we saw some really encouraging signs. Well done.

13/10/12 Prestwich FC v Pennine Black

The team travelled to Prestwich to play Prestwich FC and started the game well, going

ahead through calmly finished goal from Kyle Jones. The team had to fight hard in the game

as Prestwich were a strong side and they equalised before half time despite some really

strong defensive play from Max Thomas and Seb Kelly. Prestwich took the lead in the

second half but Pennine continued to play, never gave up and finally got their reward when

Kelly surged up the pitch and finished well from the edge of the box in the final minute of

the game. A great team effort today, well done to all

A tremendous performance this week gave the team their best result to date. Real

improvements could be seen throughout the team. Most of the early pressure came from

Pennine with good play from Jones following his excellent performance the previous week,

Kelly and Chadwick. The defence held their position much better throughout the game,

allowing Holt and Shepherd to push forward on the wings in the first half. The first goal

came following a quick reaction from Chadwick who turned and drove the ball home from

the edge of the box, a great finish. Pennine maintained the pressure and scored a second

before half time. The team’s confidence grew in the second half, Thomas, Kelly and Holt all

holding their position well in the second half to stop Roach coming back into the game.

Bentley shot just wide and Muddasser hit the post before a goal surge from Jones, Shepherd

and Kearns following a great run into the box saw Pennine finish in style. Well done boys, a

great performance.
