ESMA was established as the sole
standardization body in the UAE under the
Law No. 28/2001. The board of directors
chaired by H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin
Fahad, the Minister of Environment &
Water in the UAE and is comprised by
representatives of the main parties
involved in the standardization of the UAE.
ESMA as the National Standards Body
(NSB) is the SOLE AUTHORITY for Quality, Metrology and Standards and the National
Certification Body of the UAE.
ESMANational Standards Body (NSB) of the UAE
ESMAMandates
By ensuring that services & products
(both locally manufactured or imported)
are in conformity with the UAE standards
PROVIDING SAFETY, & PROTECTING THE
CONSUMER, ECONOMY & ENVIRONMENT
ESMAMandates
SUPPORTING NATIONAL ECONOMY
By assisting national industry to enter international competition.
ESMAMandates
Programs to raise the awareness of civil society groups, individuals, government bodies, and business about the UAE standards and standardization activities.

The draft regulation address the specific requirements of ‘Electric Vehicles’ which mainly related to the use of high-power electric equipment like:
High Voltage battery Charging System Electric motor
Electrical Safety
General requirement
Main Requirement in the draft
Electrical Safety
requirements
requirement related to the electric safety
in-use
requirement related to the electric safety
in case of impact
requirement related to the electric safety
in-use
Protection against electric shock
- direct contact - indirect contact - Isolation resistance
Marking-The symbol requirements- HV Cables requirements
Functional safety Vehicle movement system shall be impossible if its connected to the vehicle inlet
requirement related to the electric safety
in case of impact
Ensuring protection against electric shock during and post impact
To check the Retention of the Traction battery during the impact:
No part of any RESS that is located outside shall enter the passenger compartment
during or after the impact test.
Leakage of electrolyte, during and post impact:No electrolyte from the RESS
shall spill into the passenger compartment
Performance
The electric energy
consumption
electric range
The electric range is determined over a number of repetitive cycles until the battery is attains the minimum level
The electric energy consumption is measured over 2 consecutive cycles
Engine Power
test procedure to determine the power of electric motor - Maximum net power - Maximum 30 minutes power
number of the charge cycles, before its capacity dips below 80 – 85% of its original capacity
UAE Target : Minimum Distance : 250 km Speed range : 100-110km/h
battery Life
It should be at lest 1000 It should be at lest 90% from the rated
Additional requirements
-EMC requirements (Charging , high voltage operation etc.)
(Broadband radiation ; Harmonics ; Flicker ; Transient Immunity ….. )
- Braking requirements (Regenerative braking system ; Anti
lock device interaction;……..)
- Other requirements ( Vibration, Thermal shock, Fire
resistance, Short circuit protection, Overcharge protection, …….)
