Pierce used the first page of the Memoranda section at the end of this volume to record

some notes about the weather in various times of the year and a bit about his trip

East in February and March of 1903 as spokesman for California Promotion

Committee.

Compared with earlier volumes Pierce did not make much use of the

"Memoranda', "Cash Account," "Bills Payable," and other pages at the end of the

volume for records.

at about 7 a.m. to attend wedding of Maud Loveless - and Horace Crocker at 12th &

Peralta Sts Oakland at 8 a.m. Bridal party left on 9.35 train for Los Angeles -

All went to San Francisco and spent p.m. at "The Chuttes" [or "The Chutles"?]

Lunched at the "Call Cafe"

Fri 2 Jan 1903

Sue, the children and a little 5 year old orphan girl & self sent day in San Fran.

Went to Pacific Mail Dock, Golden Gate Park and Cliff House -

Bought an overcoat

Gardner and I left for Davisville an 6 p.m. train - staid at Mothers

Sat 3 Jan 1903

Home at 7.40 - sent for Gardner -

Worked on pump and pipe connections at the new tank house -

Boys set posts, and stretched some wire in east field.

Gardner went to town twice in p.m. on wheel for pipe fittings -

went to town with load of wood and got the mower and a new washing machine.

Took rake shaft to Davis for repairs. Saw Dr. (Bates) and had him come out to see a

yearling that is low.

- got cups, saucers, stove board and umbrella.

Two plow teams finished the 30 acre piece near Mother's barn and got into the 40 acre

alfalfa field.

Thurs 31 Dec 1903

Began raining a little early in the morning. Boys went out but it began raining and all

save Dick Wright unhitched.

Dick worked until noon and laid off in the afternoon. About 2 p.m. we had a heavy

shower -

I drove to Woodland, leaving home at 2.10, getting back at 7 p.m. -

- got medicine, socks, gloves etc and left guesses for automobile drawing -

Our rain fall up to this time has been very light - about four inches.

Still we have had a fine time to plow and get in grain. We are through putting in grain

Rainfall to date light - have all grain in but plowed dry dirt much of the time -

Jan 9 We are having long continued and fearfully foggy weather -

Feb 3 - Gardner and I left for the East with George Lorenz as the

representatives of the California Promotion Committee.

We took double lantern, dissolving view stereopticon to do

advertising work.

Mch 24 We reached home after our trip to Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska,

Wisconsin, and Illinois - We returned via Los Angeles over the Santa Fe
