What the Cost Involves The cost of the programme is €150. This covers the initial screening with a member of the UCD Better Bones team and an introduction to the programme during week 1 followed by 6 weeks of UCD Better Bones Level 1 exercise classes tailored to improve your bone health. Also included in the package is education on Osteoporosis and strategies and exercises to reduce your risk of bone fracture. How to Register: Registration takes place at UCD Sport reception desk. You must complete the UCD Better Bones Level 1 registration form and pay €150 by cash/cheque (made payable to UCD Sport) or by debit/credit card. Date of Commencement: The dates of the UCD Better Bones Level 1 programme will be updated on the UCD Get in Gear website at www.ucd.ie/getingear or you can email [email protected] or phone 01-7163870 to request for your name to be added to the list of interested participants for the next programme. Criteria to Participate:• 55 years of age or older• Think you are at risk of osteoporosis (brittle

bones)• Know you already have osteoporosis• Would like to start exercising to build better

bones

Join the UCD Better Bones Level 1 Exercise Programme to improve your bone health and reduce your chances of developing osteoporosisIt offers an appropriate entry level exercise programme for adults and the programme delivers the following qualities:

• Scientifically Based • Safe and Effective• Not just another exercise programme• FUN!

Aims Build Better Bones: Improve bone health and decrease the risk of fractures

Confidence: Develop better strength and balance to continue to lead an active, healthy life

Independence: Help participants to remain confident, strong and independent in daily life

Empowerment: Give participants the knowledge to have better control of their bone health and activity levels

Educational Aspect:Topics include exercise advice, safety, and basic nutrition for healthy bones. Written material will be provided which the participant can take home

Exercise Elements:• Posture Improvement• Functional Strength, Balance and Mobility• Fun and Agility• Weight Bearing Exercises• Ball Games and more Fun
