Sir Christopher Stone to play a key role in developing UK teacher education
Birmingham education leader, Sir Christopher Stone, is continuing to play a prominent role in
helping to develop teacher provision in the UK. Chris, has been appointed to a key position with
the Universities’ Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET) which promotes quality in teacher
education.
Chris, who is the CEO of the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership and an NLE (National Leader of
Education) has joined UCET’s executive committee, where he will help shape policy and support the
organisation’s mission to ‘educate the UK’s educators’.
The Universities Council for the Education of Teachers acts as a national forum for the discussion of
matters relating to the education of teachers and professional educators, and to the study of

education in the university sector.
Chris is part of the School Reference Group - a group of senior school leaders who will work with
UCET on the development and implementation of policy in the context of moves towards a schools-
led teacher education system and to act as a resource for the teacher education sector and
government.
Chris said: “I am delighted to be involved in the future development of teacher provision in the UK. It

Direct are all part of our system.
“It’s important to create enough excellent teachers to ensure that our schools are well staffed both
now and in the future. No one single route can manage that alone so by working together we will
have a better chance of ensuring that each child is taught by an excellent teacher."
Chris is a widely-respected and highly influential leader in the UK’s education sector. Earlier this
year, he was one of three National Leaders in Education to be chosen by the National College to

The Arthur Terry Learning Partnership is a multi-academy trust of seven primary and secondary
schools, one teaching school and five children’s centres which are, or have the ability to become

pupils. Chris works closely with all of the Partnership schools to ensure they achieve their goal of
