Williams took a pass in the middle of the penalty box from defender Patrick Matchett and fi red a low liner that hit the far post and went in to give the Bruins the 1-0 victory. Ryan Hollingshead assisted on the play as well. The back line was once again spectacular in shutting out the Cardinals and Brian Rowe came up with a couple of key saves as well to keep the match level. Louisville had knocked UCLA out of the Tournament in the Quarterfi nal stage a year ago and also defeated the Bruins 2-0 in the season opener for both teams.

Three Bruins Named to National Team of the Week — For their efforts against Louisville, senior goalkeeper Brian Rowe, junior midfi elder Ryan Hollingshead and sophomore forward Reed Williams were all named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week for the week of Nov. 28-Dec. 4. This is the fi rst time all season that each player has been named to the National Team of the Week.

Shutting Out the Opposition — By shutting out Louisville, the Bruins tied a school record set back in 1977 by earning their eighth straight shutout of the opposition. In addition, it was the 12th time that UCLA has shut out the other team all year, which is the most by a UCLA team since the 2005 squad had 14 shutouts. The Bruins have not allowed a goal in 748 minutes and senior goalkeeper Brian Rowe has started all 12 shutouts. The back line of Shawn Singh, Matt Wiet, Joe Sofi a and Patrick Matchett has played a key role in defense in those shutouts as well.

Hoffman Named MAC Hermann Trophy Semifi nalist — On Sunday, the National Soccer Coaches Associa-tion of America (NSCAA) announced that junior forward Chandler Hoffman has been named as one of 15 semifi nalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy. Hoffman has had an outstanding season for UCLA so far, scoring 18 goals in 23 games for the Bruins this season and leading the team with 40 points. Earlier this season, he tied UCLA records for consecutive games with a goal and multiple goal games. scoring in fi ve straight games and tallying four multiple goal games. In addition, Chandler leads the Pac-12 in goals (18), goals per game (0.82), points (40) and points per game (1.82). Nationally, Hoffman is sixth in points scored, tied for fourth in goals, is ninth in goals per game and is 12th in points per game. Also, Chandler's 18 goals are the most by a UCLA player since Joe-Max Moore scored 18 for the Bruins in 1991 and his 40 points are the most by a Bruin player since Seth George had 42 in 1997. UCLA has had two MAC Hermann Trophy winners - Brad Friedel, who won the Hermann Trophy in 1992, and Sasha Victorine, who won the MAC Trophy in 1999. The two awards were unifi ed into the MAC Hermann Trophy in 2002.

NCAA Experience — 22 UCLA players have had at least one game of NCAA Tournament experience in their time at the school, including all 11 starters. Senior captain Andy Rose has the most Tournament experi-ence out of this group, playing in 10 NCAA games in his career. Chandler Hoffman leads the team in NCAA Tournament goals with seven goals in nine games and also leads the squad with 15 points. Former UCLA All-American Jorge Salcedo is in his eighth season as head coach for the Bruins, becoming the second-longest tenured men's soccer head coach in UCLA's NCAA history.

A product of UCLA's strong soccer tradition, Salcedo has maintained the Bruins' standard for success, winning fi ve conference titles and guiding his teams to NCAA Tournament appearances each year. He signed the No. 1 recruiting classes in the nation in 2010, 2006 and 2004, and those players produced results, advancing all the way to the NCAA Championship game in the 2006 season, to the quarterfi nals in 2009 and 2010 and to the College Cup in 2011.

Over the last four seasons, Salcedo's teams have earned three Pac-12 titles and lost just four conference games (30-4-6 record). The 2011 Bruins ran the table in conference play, going 10-0 and allowing just two goals in those 10 games. Salcedo, who earned his 100th career victory when UCLA clinched the conference title on Nov. 4, was named the Pac-12's Coach of the Year. The 2010 Bruins won 16 games and advanced to the NCAA quarterfi nals for the second consecutive year. In 2009, Salcedo's Bruins won their second-straight Pac-10 Championship, and placed two players on the All-America team. Additionally, a school record-tying fi ve players were selected in the MLS SuperDraft at the conclusion of the season. In 2008, Salcedo guided UCLA to the Pac-10 Championship and was named the Pac-10 Coach of the Year for the second time in his tenure.

Salcedo's 2007 team extended UCLA's post-season appearance streak to 25 consecutive years, advancing to the NCAA second round. The Bruins, who fi nished with a 9-9-3 record, scored in the classroom, with 24 of 30 team members making the Director's Honor Roll during the school year.

The 2006 Bruins faced an uphill battle with injuries to several starters throughout the season, but they fought through the adversity and ended a successful post-season run in the title game with a fi nal season record of 14-6-4.

In 2005, Salcedo's Bruins recorded a 12-5-3 record and ranked amongst the best in the nation in team defense, allowing just 14 goals and posting a team goals against average of 0.67. The Bruins also captured the Pac-10 title for the fourth year in a row and earned a No. 5 seeding in the NCAA Tournament.

During his fi rst season, Salcedo earned Pac-10 Co-Coach of the Year honors after leading UCLA to its third-straight conference title. His Bruins ended the regular sea-son ranked No. 3 by Soccer America and advanced to the third round of the NCAA

Tournament, where they fi nished the year with a 14-4-2 record.
