When it comes to winning bowl games, UCLA is one of the most suc-cessful programs in the nation. Since 1982, no Pac-10 school and only nine programs in the nation have won more bowl games than UCLA.

The Bruins have won 11 of their last 19 bowl appearances and their eight straight wins (from 1982-91) were one shy of the national record.

The 2007 Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl was UCLA’s 29th bowl appearance.

On January 2, 1989, UCLA set an NCAA record for bowl victories in consecutive seasons by beating Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl. That was UCLA’s seventh bowl triumph in as many seasons. Those UCLA post-season victories included the 1983, ’84 and ’86 Rose Bowls, the 1985 Fiesta Bowl, the 1986 Freedom Bowl, and the 1987 Aloha Bowl.

Year in and year out, UCLA is well represented in the National Football League. In addition to being among the leaders in schools that produce NFL players, UCLA is also at the forefront in the area of

former players and coaches working in the NFL. In addition to the men pictured on this page, former assistant coach Lynn Stiles is Vice President of Football Operations for

the Kansas City Chiefs; and former running back Eric Ball is Director of Player Relations for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Every March, the UCLA football staff hosts UCLA’s “Pro Day” - where NFL scouts and team representatives come to see draft-eligible athletes participate in combine tests and drills. The NFL personnel are greeted by Head Football Coach Rick Neuheisel and Head Athletic Performance Coach Mike Linn. Various other UCLA staff members, associated with football, are available throughout the day to assist. On the fi rst day of “Pro Day,” players are tested on their strength by how many times they can bench press 225 lbs. The second day of “Pro Day” is when the majority of the testing occurs, beginning with height and weight measurements, wing span and hand spread measurements, vertical jump and standing long jump, the 40-yard dash, pro shuttle, “L” drill, and long shuttle, followed by individual workouts within each position group.

Community ofLearners

Academic ProgramThe Community of Learners (COL) is a year-long

academic support program for incoming student-athletes, which provides resources, guidance, and leadership training. Our community is made up of college counselors, UCLA professors, mentors, former Bruins, and support staff.

COL meets twice a week to offer an interactive envi-ronment that teaches life-long learning habits of setting and meeting daily academic objectives, uti-lizing university resources and applying proactive learning approaches. Our COL team also conducts intense course reviews, offers writing tutoring, as well as motivates and inspires students.

Our COL program challenges students with brain teas-ers, invites a variety of guest speakers, and offers quarterly professor mixers and leadership events. We emphasize goal setting and teamwork to foster independent learners and future leaders.
