embers of the Uitenhage 14 Round
Table are preparing to embrace the
winter chill for anight all for a good
cause.
The Winter Knights project will take place
tomorrownight at the EngenPenford conven-
ience centre parking lot.
Members involved will spend the night in
minimal clothing exposed to thewrath ofwin-
ters chilly temperatures.
The aim is to experience how harsh the
coldest time of winter can be to those who are
less fortunate, said Deon Nel, chairman of
the Uitenhage 14 Round Table.
The Knights urge all members of the com-
munity to support those in need of some hope
and warmth this winter. All needed to do is
to stop at Engen Penford convenience centre
tomorrow from 18:30 until late and donate
warm blankets, clothing, tinned food or any-
thing else that will help those in need to expe-
rience a more comfortable winter.
The donations will be split amongst vari-
ous charitable organisations aswell as school
interact committees which will relay the do-
nations to those in need.
Lets support each other as a community
and help those who are less fortunate by join-
ing the Uitenhage 14 Round Table Winter
Knights tomorrownight as they fight the cold
to make someones winter a little cosier,
said Nel.

the project has been completed by contacting

nations.

of this day, the South
African National
Blood Service
(SANBS) has adopt-
ed July as Mandela
Month and is calling
on all South Afri-
cans to make a dif-
ference by donating
blood.
Often people say
that they are scared
of a needle and
therefore dont give
blood.
We want to en-
courage everyone to
be liberated by their
own fear and donate
a unit of blood. As
Madiba said, that
will automatically
liberate others and
in this case, save the
lives of up to 3 peo-
ple says Nina van Wyk, SANBS - Public Re-
lations Practitioner.
Blood donation is one of the simplest ways
tomake a difference to the lives of others and
it is something you can continue to do every
56 days.
Currently SANBS
is experiencing a
critical shortage
with only 1.6 days
blood stocknational-
ly.

peal to the public to
please support blood
donation as every
unit of blood is need-
ed.

Eastcape Midlands College
(EMC) has been serving the com-
munities of Uitenhage for the
several years. Most of the high
schools in the area are feeder
schools ofEMCand thusprosper-
ous relationships have devel-
oped from these engagements.
In an effort to strengthen rela-
tionships and to plough back to
the community, EMC has been
working with the community to
combat the evil of drug abuse.
Various events have been im-
plemented, amongst these the
successful street cricket project.
Street cricket has become a high-
light in the community and has
created an alternative recrea-
tional activity for the youth.
Needless to say, it has created an
absolute buzz amongst parents,
grandparents and kids alike.
Against this background, EMC
hasdecided to extend its involve-
ment by supporting Pastor Geor-
gen Miggels, in hosting the
Madiba Day 67th Ball Street
Cricket Tournament. The game
will take on its own individual
flair, as for every 67th ball that
counts as a six - a special gift will
be handed to the respective
cricket player.
This will be a first for the
northern areas of Uitenhage. It
will be held tomorrow from 08:00
on the sports field next to
Rosedale Clinic. Eight teams
from the community will partici-
pate.
The streets between Grasvol
and Kingfisher will be closed for
traffic for the duration of the
event. Kamesh police service
will be present to see to the safety
and security of all attending the
event.
The community is invited to
support this event.

he Uitenhage Market has become syn-
onymous with an outdoor family fun
day and will relocate to the Uitenhage
Sports Grounds as from Sunday, 3 August
2014.
The Uitenhage Market is a community
project and our aim is not tomakemoney, but
to boost entrepreneurship in the entireUiten-
hage community, said Lilly de Jong from
Women in Business, the organisers of the
Uitenhage Market day.
We support entrepreneurship by offering
an affordable platform to people who would
like to sell their goods and earn an income,
thusassisting in relieving thehighunemploy-
ment rate in our town.
Themarket offers visitors a variety ofmore
than 200 different stands and an average of be-
tween 8 500 to 9 000 visitors attend these mar-
ket days.
We are sad that we have to move from the
Old Concentration Camp. But too many
restrictions and limitations required from
the trust managing the venue, resulted in us
opting to move to an alternative and more
centralised venue, said De Jong.
Ubuntu Community Development Solu-
tions, a non-profit organisation promoting
social development with a holistic approach
towards upliftment in Uitenhage, is the co-
host of the Uitenhage Market.
We tackle projects to better or develop it
with the assistance and support of the com-
munity, which benefits from the project,
saidAngeliqueNell fromUbuntuCommunity
Development Solutions.
Our next challenge is to assist in upgrad-
ing the Uitenhage Sports Grounds. We are
calling on all members of the community and
businesses to assist us by donating paint,
paintbrushes and rollers in support of this
project.
During the following weeks we aim to
beautify and restore the grounds to the best
of our abilities, said Nell.
Mandela Day challenge
In celebration of Mandela Day, the public
as well as local businesses are invited to give
67 minutes of their time by volunteering to
assist in painting the outside walls of the
sports grounds or in cleaning the premises.
All interested aremost welcome to support
this venture in uplifting the sports grounds.

baan waar sy met n fluitjie in die hand op-
en-af hardloop. Binnekort sal di prentjie
van Prince weer op internasionale televisie
te sien wees wanneer sy vir van die wreld
se beste netbalspanne as skeidsregter gaan
optree.
Dit sal die eerste keer wees dat ek netbal-
wedstryde vir die Statebondspele blaas en
dit is n ongelooflike groot eer, het Prince
ges.
Prince, wat ook verlede jaar tydens die
o.21-netbalwreldbeker in Glasgow, Skot-
land geblaas het, s sy het t al gesien hoe
di land sy vere vir vanjaar se Statebond-
spele regskud.
Ek het daardie tyd gedink aan hoe lekker
dit sal wees om deel van die groot byeenkoms
te wees, en nou is ek!
Maar presies hoe word n skeidsregter een
van net 13 uitgesoekte netbalskeidsregters
uit die wreldwye aanbod?
Die keuringsproses werk volgens meriete
van jou vermo oor n hele paar wedstryde,
verduidelik Prince kortliks.
Maar, voeg sy by, jymoet bie fikswees.
Die wedstryde is elk n uur lank en word op
n warm binnenshuise baan gehou. Jy mot

plaaslike vlak (klub of skool) hul staal bewys
voor hulle vir provinsiale vlak, daarnanasio-
nale vlak en uiteindelik internasionale vlak
kan kwalifiseer.
Prince erken sy kry steeds skoenlappers in
die maag voor n wedstryd.
Maar dit is net omdat dit so wonderlik is
om deel te wees van die aksie tussen die
wreld se beste netbalspanne, Nieu-Seeland
en Australi.

The art@factory art exhibition, set in an
extra-ordinary environment with a rustic
relaxed feel to it, will portray 50 paintings
from established Eastern Cape artists as well
as artworks from young artists.
Various artists from the province, includ-
ing artists from Jeffreys Bay, have accepted
the invitation to participate in the art@facto-
ry same size, sameprice art exhibition,which
will be held in support of art at Bergsig Spe-
cial School in Uitenhage.
The 13 learners who have chosen to be
skilled in the craft of art are now in their final
year. In celebration of this milestone we
would like to offer these young artists the
privilege to have their work exhibited along-
side those of prominent and professional art-
ists, said Luana Bester, local artist and art
educator at Bergsig Special School.
There will be 50 artists, 50 paintings, all
the same size (250x300mm) and same price
(R500). Paintings should not have been signed
for the art exhibition, as we would like it to
be exhibited anonymously, said Bester.
All paintings will be sold at the same price
(R500) and artists will be invited to sign their
work after it has been sold.
The art@factory same size, same price art
exhibition, will be held at 18:30, Thursday,
July 31st at Bergsig Special School. Entry is
free and the public are invited to come and
enjoy this feast of art from established as well
as aspiring artists. Soup will be available.

clothes, toys and pet treats during their
previous market day as part of their
Christmas in July theme, with the aim to
giveback to those inneed in theUitenhage
community.
The collection did exceedingly well
and we have managed to collect two black
bags full of toys and nine black bags of
clothes, said Angie Nell from the Uiten-
hage Market team.
Generousvisitors to theUitenhageMar-
ket also donated gifts and goodies for the
Uitenhage SPCA. These items were hand-
ed over to the association last Saturday.
