Match backgroundBoth Tottenham Hotspur FC and PFC CSKA Moskva suffered disappointing matchday five results to end their hopesof reaching the knockout rounds and meet at Wembley with a ticket to the UEFA Europa League at stake.

• Tottenham lost 2-1 away to AS Monaco FC the same night as the Army Men could do no more than draw 1-1 athome against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. It left Spurs one point ahead of their Russian rivals, meaning they will move intothe UEFA Europa League unless CSKA inflict a third Wembley defeat of this season's competition.

• When the teams met on matchday two in Moscow – their first competitive fixture – Heung-Min Son's late goal gavethe visitors victory.

Match backgroundTottenham• Back among the European elite after an absence of five seasons, Tottenham began with a 2-1 defeat againstMonaco at their adopted home, Wembley Stadium.

• In the double-header against Leverkusen Spurs drew 0-0 away and again failed to make home advantage count inthe return, going down 1-0.

• Spurs won four of five home games en route to the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League in 2015/16, going down 2-1at White Hart Lane to Borussia Dortmund for a 5-1 aggregate defeat.

CSKA• The Russian champions recovered a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 at Leverkusen at the start of their tenth group stagecampaign.

• On matchday three they drew 1-1 at home to Monaco while the away game brought a 3-0 defeat for Leonid Slutski'sside.

• In their fourth successive group stage campaign, CSKA are aiming to improve on last season's performance whenthey finished bottom of Group B (W1 D1 L4).

• They have lost nine of their last 11 away games in the group stage of this competition, their solitary success comingin a 2-1 win at Manchester City FC on matchday four in 2014/15.

• The Army Men have lost on three of their seven visits to England, drawing three. Their overall record againstPremier League opposition is W3 D5 L8.

Coach and player links• Bibras Natcho scored for FC Rubin Kazan when Spurs lost 1-0 there in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League groupstage.

• Mauricio Pochettino won in Moscow as an RCD Espanyol player in a 1-0 UEFA Cup group stage victory over FCLokomotiv Moskva in 2005/06.

• Slutski was coach of the Russia side who drew 1-1 with England at UEFA EURO 2016 thanks to Vasili Berezutski'sadded-time equaliser. Eric Dier had earlier scored a free-kick past Akinfeev.

• Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen helped Belgium beat Russia 1-0 at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Son Heung-Min was in the Korea Republic side who held Russia 1-1 in the same group phase in Brazil.

• Golovin was named best young player in the Russian Premier-Liga for 2016 by the Russian Football Union (RFS) on28 November.

• Cauņa is yet to make a competitive appearance this season after ankle surgery in July.

Chapecoense commemorationTeams taking part in all of the matchday six UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches willobserve a minute's silence to pay respect to the victims of last week's air disaster involving the Chapecoense teamand accompanying delegation. The Brazilian club lost most of their players and coaching staff in the accident, whichoccurred in Colombia, where Chapecoense were due to play the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final againstAtlético Nacional.

"European football is united in expressing its deepest sympathy to Chapecoense, the Brazilian Football Confederation[CBF], CONMEBOL and the families of all the victims," said UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin. "This tragedy hasshaken the world of football, and we would like to send our support to all of those affected by it."

• A tough-tackling central defender, Pochettino was a product of Newell's Old Boys in Argentina where he played withthe legendary Diego Maradona during his five years in the senior squad.

• He moved to Europe in 1994 to join Spanish side Espanyol and won the Copa del Rey in 2000, before joining Parisin January 2001. After a stint at Bordeaux, returned to Espanyol, initially on loan, before hanging up his boots in 2006having won another Copa del Rey. Capped 20 times by Argentina, whom he represented in the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

• Switched to coaching with Espanyol in January 2009, with the club lying third from bottom in the Spanish Liga;guided them to a tenth-placed finish. Under Pochettino, three further mid-table finishes followed before a slow start to2012/13 prompted his departure.

• Surprisingly resurfaced in England at Southampton in January 2013, succeeding Nigel Adkins; introduced a high-pressing, attacking style which helped the club keep clear of relegation trouble. In his first full season in charge, tookSaints to eighth position with 56 points – a new club record.

• Appointed Tottenham manager on a five-year contract in May 2014, and led the side to the English League Cup finalin his debut campaign, only to lose out to Chelsea FC in the final. The following season, 2015/16, Pochettino's sidewere in contention to win the club's first league title since 1961 until a draw at Chelsea with two games to go;nevertheless finished third to book a UEFA Champions League return.

• Started playing career as a goalkeeper with Volgograd regional team Zvezda Gorodishche, but suffered a severeinjury after falling from a tree and was forced to hang up his gloves after just 13 matches.

• Began coaching career in youth football at Olimpia Volgograd. From 2002 to 2004 he worked at Uralan Elista wherehe was promoted to head coach following relegation from top flight. Took the reins at Moskva reserves in 2004 andreplaced Valeri Petrakov as the club's head coach the following summer.

• Under Slutski, Moskva finished fifth in 2005 and sixth in 2006 before attaining a record-high fourth position in 2007.After a spell at Krylya Sovetov, guiding them into Europe, he took over at CSKA in October 2009, replacing JuandeRamos. That December he led CSKA to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages for the first time beforequarter-final elimination by FC Internazionale Milano.

• Lifted first trophy in May 2011 with CSKA's Russian Cup triumph and went on to further success. CSKA returned tothe UEFA Champions League knockout rounds in 2011/12, losing in the last 16 to Real Madrid CF, but 2012/13brought their first league title since 2006 and a shoot-out defeat of FC Anji on penalties in the Russian Cup final.

• Began the next season with another trophy as CSKA lifted the Russian Super Cup and ended it with a secondstraight league title. In August 2015, he agreed to take charge of the Russia team until the end of UEFA EURO 2016,alongside his CSKA role, following the departure of Fabio Capello. Russia won all four of their remaining games toreach France but their early exit prompted Slutski to step down; he had guided CSKA to another league title earlierthat year.
