Ülo ‘s Christmas Eve

In Poland we put some hay under the tablecloth to commemorate the place where Christ was

born

We decorate the table and light the candles

We prepare the holy wafer, which, later on, everybody shares

We leave an extra plate for an unexpected guest. This year I was the unexpected guest!

On Christmas Eve, Father Christmas brings presents and puts them under the Christmas

tree.

We put twelve dishes on a Christmas table like:

-Carp-Herring in vinegar-Herring in cream-Jacket potatoes-Mushroom soup with noodles-Ravioli with sauerktaut and mushrooms

-Sauerkraut with peas-Sauerkraut with mushrooms-Stewed fruit-Vegetable salad-Fruit salad-Kutya

When the first star appears in the sky, everybody shares a holy wafer and then sits at the table

Everybody wants to spend this time with their family

After Christmas supper – children’s favourite part of the celebrations – getting presents!

I spent Christmas break in the mountains

We played in the snow.

I lived here:

We walked…

… and skied.
