WHAT THE LUMINARIES HAVE TO SAY

Manipal is like the Nalanda of yore. I am happy to seeengineering, medicine and other disciplines being taught in thesame campus, an ideal environment for research to flourish.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India

When Dr.TMA Pai decided to build a medical college in Manipal,it sounded like an impossible dream. In the space of 50 years,Manipal was transformed into an education capital, which is proofenough of a powerful vision.

Mr. Azim H Premji,Chairman, Wipro

The right thing to do for marginalized society would be to providethem education. To do this at a scale needed, we need to enlistprivate initiative as much as possible. The example of Manipalserves as a beacon which could guide both Central and StateGovernments on what can be done.

The Allied Health industry is brimming with fresh opportunities. But which ones are right for you? SMU-DE set out to answer this and many other pertinent questions at a special workshop on Stem Cell Research and Emerging Trends in Healthcare. At the event SMU-DE students were invited to attend exclusive talks from industry experts along with lab visits.

The workshop explored the integration of all Allied Health Science sub-streams, like Lab Technology, Health Information Administration and Imaging technology along with Biotechnological advances and implementation. Each session had highly interactive discussions as students were challenged to go beyond their textbooks and understand the industry.

At SMU-DE, we believe that an informed and vibrant faculty makes learning interesting. Keeping this in mind, we organized an academic conference titled “Online and e-learning” at the India International Centre. The conference brought together all the centre faculty and directors and provided them an opportunity to share views about distance and online education . In order to get a deeper insight into distance education, the centre faculty also undertook research in the area of E-learning and presented papers on the same.

practical training and 40% for the final examination to be held on the last day of the practical training. Since this

practical training requires advanced equipment and imported chemicals, they will be conducted only at the

University designated nodal centres. These nodal centres are provided with full fledged infrastructure and trained

staff to support the students. Practical training will be scheduled once in a year and it is compulsory for all the

students to attend the practical training.

IT Program at SMU, the effort is constantly to bridge the gap between theory and practice. One such initiative is the introduction of several Short-term Skill and Employability enhancement Certification Programs through professional bodies that bring their rich experience in educational endeavours to enhance learning. Manipal Global Education is the entity that the University closely works with and entrusts the responsibility to enrich the University learning with topical Programs that also offer Certification, to help add value and enhance the employability quotient of students. While these programs are optional, students are encouraged to opt for these Programs. These Certificate Programs carry separate fees.

• Provide in-depth understanding of domain chosen by the student• Provide extensive hands on practice through an innovative Online Platform and give students a competitive edge amongst peers• Monitor the students learning and development, assess their ability and certify them accordingly• Prepare the students for Job Interviews that are more often than not based on practical knowledge• Prepare student to clear Global Certifications in their respective domains

Student may choose from five different domains, each leading to two Certifications, with an additional Business Communication Program to go with. The area of specialization would be as follows: Software Development, Database Management, Web Development, Testing and Networking
