The TV viewing world is readying itself for a UHD future. Recent market research of senior media executives conducted by Market Connections Inc. (and commissioned by Intelsat)reveals that almost two thirds of those questioned foresee UHDTV being mainstream within fi ve to seven years.

Furthermore, 85 per cent expect UHDTV to be the de-facto norm for media viewing in 10 years time. Worldwide, organizations are paying large sums for UHD broadcast rights to major sports and cultural events, which are normally broadcast live.
