Anything that involves self-expression, music, reading, going to the beach, being clever, the act of stunting, and fabulous naps.
In this mist of all the turmoil and stress and comparisons that college brings, dont forget to recognize and appreci-ate the beauty all around you. You will find what youre looking for. If you are set on looking for all of whats wrong with your life, you will most certain-ly find it. Luckily, the opposite is also true. Choose your paradigm. Choose your perspective. Your happiness/joy depends on your decision. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose. Do what you want. Listen to your heart. If you dont, it will never shut up. Dreams dont die, just your intentions to follow them. So cheers to a year of pursuit! Be well. :-)

Its important to have a good time in college, but dont overlook the importance of putting academ-ics first. There will always be time to have fun after you get your work done, and you will be less stressed in the end. I recommend investing in a good planner and putting it to use from day one. Take advantage of all of the on-campus resources that are included with your time at UM, anything from the Academic Resource Center for tutoring to the Counseling Center. Most of the different resources on cam-pus have workshops and out-reach events that you can at-tend to see if you could benefit from the help they are offering to provide. Dont be afraid to ask questions and talk to your RA to see if they can help you figure out where the best place to go may be.

My advice to residents is to make the most out of every opportunity presented to them. The University of Miami is an amazing place where you can succeed academically, yet have the best four years of your life. Go to the football games, experi-ence the fun activities offered at the Green or the intramural fields, make sure to visit the library every now and then, and spend time getting to know your new classmates. There is certainly no other university like UM, so embrace everything it has to of-fer!

Take advantage of every moment. Its best to accomplish what you can when you can, no matter how small the task, because you never know when an unexpected opportunity will come up, especially during college. Be open to things outside your comfort zone and try to learn from the new people youll be encountering by asking questions- odds are theyve had a very different life than yours and you could learn something from their experiences. Know that you have the potential to succeed, but you need to put in the ef-fort by going to class and utilizing the resources UM has to offer. Remember, its normal to feel overwhelmed with all these changes. Just keep true to your-self and find a healthy balance.
