Welcome to the second edition of the UK-NL Cyber Security Showcase organised by the Department for International Trade in the Netherlands.

Security and prosperity depend on an ability to safeguard the digital information, data and networks at home and abroad, that underpin our society and economy. The cyber threats to those assets continue to grow in scale and sophistication. The annual cost of cyber-attacks to the UK economy is in tens of billions; we regard it as a top threat to our economic and national security.

The UK’s National Cyber Security Strategy defines our vision and ambition for a UK that is secure and resilient to cyber threats; prosperous and confident in the digital world. Our economic prosperity and social well-being increasingly depend on the openness and security of networks that stretch beyond our borders. We all benefit from a free, open, peaceful and secure cyberspace. And we have a shared responsibility and mutual interest in improving our collective cyber security.

Against that background, the Department for International Trade here in the Netherlands have organised the second UK-NL Cyber Security Showcase. We aim to bring together British and Dutch cyber security companies, end users, resellers, and other stakeholders in the cyber security industry, to share best practice and investigate potential partnerships in cyber security in both the Netherlands and the UK. I wish you all an interesting event, which I hope will lead to greater corporation between the UK and Netherlands cyber security industry.

Bringing together British and Dutch capabilities and best practices is therefore not only economically interesting, it also serves a common purpose: a free, open, peaceful and secure cyberspace.The UK-NL Cyber Security Showcase therefore brings together the latest cyber security capabilities, innovations and thoughts on cyber security from the United Kingdom and The Netherlands.

For the Cyber Talks we have managed to gather a set of interesting, challenging speakers from both the United Kingdom and The Netherlands. These Cyber Talks will be alternated with Cyber Pitches from the participating companies to present their solutions for today’s cyber security threats.

Our aim is to give you the opportunity to get a feel and taste of everything that is going on during the day. The Cyber Talks & Pitches will be interactive and open. You will be able to walk in and out of sessions and speak to the companies and speakers individually. Conrad PrinceUK Cyber Security Ambassador

Conrad Prince is the UK Cyber Security Ambassador, based in UK’s Department for International Trade. In this role he works with overseas governments on the development of cybersecurity strategy, helping to identify the required cyber security capability as well as advising on skills and training. He is also the UK’s senior advocate for the government’s agenda to develop a strong and innovative cybersecurity sector. He has had a 25-year career in GCHQ, holding various leadership roles. In 2015 he was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath.

Patricia ZorkoDirector Cyber Security NCTV

Patricia Zorko is the Deputy National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism as well as Director Cyber Security. Previously, she worked as quartermaster of the police, followed by chief of the National Unit of the National Police. She has also been head of the Dutch National Crime Squad. In the various positions she held, she continuously contributed to improving security both in the Netherlands and in an international context. Especially in recent years, she has explored the challenges associated with cyber security and violent jihadism. As Deputy Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism and Director Cyber Security, Patricia is, in fact, responsible for these very issues among other things.

Lisette has over twenty years of experience building and growing businesses both via indirect and direct sales models in the technology sector. Her experience covers both ‘branded’ and ‘non-branded’ software business, with both conventional revenue models (perpetual license, enterprise license deals) as well as SaaS models.

Lisette is currently working for Mimecast, a leader in cloud based security and resilience for email, to expand their business in continental Europe. Lisette also helps as a non-executive director Infigo Software grow its business and advises on corporate strategy. As Head of Channel for Zynstra, Lisette was responsible for the recruitment and engagement of the Zynstra channel in a very early stage and the conception of the partner programme “Accelerate” for the Zynstra channel community. Prior to Zynstra, Lisette built and grew her own company together with a team of other people. For the company, a Dutch headquartered mobile application platform and development company, Lisette successfully secured global brands in all continents, contributed to raising capital through two venture rounds and doubling the business in 5 consecutive years. Most notably the company won the Deloitte Fast 50 award as the fastest growing technology company in Netherlands and number 14 in of the Deloitte tech 500 in Europe. Within her previous VP and Director roles, in both technology start-ups and market leading technology firms, including Vignette (now Opentext), EFI and Royal KPN, Lisette built successful sales channels, doubled revenues and developed strategic alliance partnerships. A seasoned business academic, Lisette holds an MBA from University of Oregon.

Professor Tim Spiller moved to York in 2014 as founding Director of the York Centre for Quantum Technologies and he is now also Director of the UK Quantum Communications Hub. Prior to this he was at the University of Leeds in the roles of Head of the Quantum Information Group and Director of Research for the School of Physics and Astronomy. Prior to 2009 Spiller was Director of Quantum Information Processing (QIP) Research at HP Labs Bristol – an activity that he established in 1995 – and a Hewlett-Packard Distinguished Scientist. He has spent 35 years researching quantum theory, superconducting systems and quantum hardware and technologies. He led HP’s strategy on the commercialisation of QIP research, is an inventor on 25 patents linked to quantum technologies and applications, and was additionally a consultant inside HP on networking, communications and nanotechnology.

Christian SchaffnerAssistant Professor at UvA (ILLC)and Senior Researcher at CWI & QuSoft

Christian Schaffner received a diploma degree in mathematics from ETH Zurich (Switzerland) in 2003 and a PhD degree in computer science from Aarhus University (Denmark) in 2007. After three years as postdoctoral scholar at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), he is currently an Assistant Professor of Theoretical Computer Science at the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) at the University of Amsterdam. He is a VENI and VIDI laureate, has served on various program committees and is currently chairing the steering committee of the annual QCrypt conference.

His research interest is quantum cryptography in a broad sense: On the one hand, he develops new quantum protocols (e.g. for position-based cryptography or homomorphic encryption), on the other hand, he studies quantum-safe cryptography and develops quantum-information-theoretic tools. He is interested in outreach and educating people about the quantum nature of the world and the implications for cryptography.

Peter’s career in UK security and law enforcement spans 33 years and includes national lead roles on child protection and security industry liaison, and tackling serious and organised crime as a Chief Officer in two police forces, a regional collaboration and the National Crime Agency. Since February 2017 he has practised in the private sector in cyber security, child protection and counter terrorism. Peter is the Global Ambassador for the UK based non-profit organisation Get Safe Online.

On 26 and 27 September, a group of 20 innovative UK FinTech companies visits The Hague on a trade mission organised by the Department for International Trade the Netherlands (DIT). During this two day programme they will meet with potential Dutch buyers and investors.
