Our School Planning and Review Process has begun.
Our strategic directions for 2015-2017 are:
- Quality Teaching and Learning
- Leadership across the school and community
As a staff we have been reviewing our current plan to
look at the impact our current plan has had across the
school and to look at changes for 2016. This is all
under pinned by the School Excellence Framework
where the focus is on the student, excellence in
learning, excellence in teaching and excellence in
leading.
The Tell Them From Me Survey was one of our
strategic directions analysis forms but unfortunately we
didn’t have enough responses from parents to use that
part of the survey so I will be sending home a different
survey to gauge parents feelings and ideas for the
school and the education of your child.
Transition/Kinder/Yr1/Yr 2 Excursion
This week the students headed off to Coffs Harbour
for a fun but educational day. The children spent time
at Tabatinga and the Coffs Harbour Aquarium. They
had a great day as you can see from the photos later in
the newsletter.
Ulmarra PS is 125 years old in 2016 UPS is turning 125 in 2016. We would like to
celebrate this milestone by holding celebrations over
the weekend of Friday 24th and Saturday 25th of June
2016. Save the date!
Remembrance Day
On Wednesday we remembered all the Australian men
and women who have served in war and peacekeeping
activities at our Remembrance Day Service with the
local RSL at the cenotaph in Memorial Park. Ryan,
Ashleigh, Brodie and Zach spoke at the service. I was
very proud of the way all students paid their respect to
Defence Force Personnel. Thank you to the
community who were able to join us.
NEWSLETTER 2015
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we work on; the Yaegl and Gumbaynggirr people.

Deeds not words.
Christmas Hamper
The P&C are holding a Christmas Raffle and would
like donations of non-perishable food items and
Christmas items. Please drop these into the front of-
fice.
Volunteers and Working With Children Check
Thank you to those parents and grandparents who
took the opportunity to complete their Working
With Children Check at school last week. Don’t
forget to take it into the RMS for validation and
then bring the number in to school
All volunteers who work with children in any capacity
now need a Working With Children Check in NSW.
This includes Home Reading volunteers, canteen vol-
unteers and anyone who come to schools to help in
any way. As a volunteer there is no cost BUT the ap-
plication needs to be done online at
www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au. The application then
needs to be taken to a RMS Office for verification.
During this term I would like all volunteers to com-
plete this check and show us the verification form.
Parents and grandparents may complete this on a
computer at school if you wish. This offer is open to
all community members who may need to complete
their check for any volunteer service.
Outstanding Accounts
The end of the school financial year is fast approach-
ing. Settlement of all outstanding accounts would be
appreciated by Friday 20th November 2015. Thank
you to those who have already settled their accounts.
Year 6 Fundraiser
Year 6 will be selling Zooper Doopers for 50c every
Wednesday and Friday for 10 minutes at lunch time.
The money raised from this will go towards their
Year 6 Farewell and Gift to the School.
Maintenance
You will have noticed a bit of work happening
around the school over the last few weeks. We have
finally had our fence erected after most of it blew
down in a storm late last year. Thank you to Ken
Cowan, David Dick and Jeff Rainbow who removed
palings and posts from the school grounds.
The practice wall was deemed unsafe due to an enor-
mous crack down the centre and the subsequent
movement in the wall. Dave Bale and his team took
this down during the week and also removed the old
cement path in the middle of the oval.
Ken Cowan and Lawrie Mearing have been busily
clearing the stones from out the front to be replaced
by turf next Tuesday. Extra help on Tuesday to lay
the turf would be greatly appreciated. In the near future the rest of the front windows of the
school will be tinted and the green house will be re-
moved.
FOR SALE
We have a stove for sale. The cord has been cut and
this will need to be replaced for the stove to work.
Make an offer!
HOMEREADING
Home reading will finish on Friday the 27th Novem-
ber. All home readers will need to brought back to
school by that date for stocktake and repair.
The Excursion
We went to the aquarium. We touched a sea eel. It
was slimy. We touched a star fish. We saw a boat. It
looked like under the sea. There was a play boat. It
was fun. We got cards to see fish. We saw a shark but
it was only a mediumn. I loved it.
By Talia Yr 1
I went on an excursion to Tabatinga and the Solitary
Islands Aquarium. In the Aquarium I touched a sea
cucumber and a sea urchin and a sea snail and I even
touched a starfish. I saw a shark. It was so cool then I
saw an octopus.
I went to Tabatinga and I went on the jungle gym and
glow in the dark mini golf. I did some craft too.
