Utopia CommunityBy the time indigenous artistEmily Kame Kngwarreye haddied in 1996, the octogenarianhad created more than 3000paintings in a relatively shorteight-year career. Her enduringpresence was demonstratedwhen, almost a decade after herdeath, her work Earth’s Creationbroke two world records at aSydney auction, selling for justmore than $1 million to becomethe highest selling indigenouswork in the world, as well thehighest selling Australianartwork by a woman. The serieswas created in 1994 at her homeof Utopia, a settlementnortheast of Alice Springs. New indigenous gallery Ultimate Artwill display Kngwarreye’s Wild Flower Dreaming, painted in thesame workshop and in a similarstyle to Earth’s Creation.
