    INTRODUCTION

    Introduction

    Divinity permeates every aspect of fantasy campaigns and magic is how it expresses itself in the most miraculous and mysterious ways. From the ministering priest who closes grievous wounds with the power of faith alone, to a feral druid summoning the very trees to waylay his tormentors, divine magic is more than simple tricks and flashy spellslinging. It is a connection to an older, greater essence that sponsors and supports its supplicants. Divine spellcasters are far more than lack-lustre mages; they are the walking manifestation of their moral beliefs and ethical stance, acting as beacons in the darkness to those who need faith – or as the most heinous, bigoted oppressors of the weak.

    The Ultimate Divine Spellbook has been developed to aid both Players and Games Masters alike as they venture into a wider and more magical world. Presented herein are a wealth of spells and information specifically designed for spiritual spellcasters, be they heroes or villains.

    This resource is prefaced by full and updated spell lists for all the main divine spellcasting classes (clerics, druids, paladins, rangers, blackguards and adepts), as well as comprehensive cleric domain spell lists for ease of reference. With the main spell descriptions then presented alphabetically, the Ultimate Divine Spellbook is a tome of knowledge no gamer’s table should be without.

    Ultimate Divine SpellbookThe primary purpose of this supplementary rulebook is to present both Players and Games Masters with a selection of the best, original and more obscure spells currently available under the Open Gaming Licence. Drawn from the best Mongoose Publishing

    has published in the past few years, Open Game Content from the Core Rulebooks and many other sources, all fully compatible with the newest revision of the Core Rulebooks.

    Spells are presented as follows. Note that not all spells will have every single category designated below:

    Spell School (Spell’s Subschool) [Spell’s Descriptor]Level: The spell’s level in regard to each spellcaster able to cast it.Components: The spell’s requisite components and their nature; verbal, somatic, material components, focus or divine focus.Casting Time: How long it takes the caster to cast the spell, be it a single standard action or several hours.Range: The maximum distance at which the spell ca be cast.Target: The type and number of targets the spell may be cast upon.Area: The area that the spell effects.Effect: A brief description of the spell’s general effect when cast.Duration: The amount of time the spell will last before its effects will wear off.Saving Throw: Details of any saving throws affected creatures or objects may make in order to reduce the spell’s effectiveness.Spell Resistance: Whether Spell Resistance may be used to negate the spell’s effects (normally Yes or No).

    Divine Focus/Focus/Material Component/XP Cost: The specific physical accoutrements or spiritual costs the caster needs in order to cast the spell.

    The rules and ideas presented in the Ultimate Divine Spellbook are by no means replacements or definitive. They are presented as optional; adopt those you like and disregard those you do not feel serve any purpose in your game.
