IMPORTANT INFORMATION:Please read these instructions thoroughly before use. Failure to follow instructions may result in equipment damage or failure, losses, injury or death.

DANGER: To avoid possible electric shock:

• If the power cord has been damaged, DO NOT operate, the UltraUV™ transformer should be replaced.

• Prior to installation, inspect the quartz sleeve and UV-C bulb to ensure there was no damage during transportation.

• After installation, the UltraUV™ should be examined to ensure there is no water on parts not intended to be wet.

• If the UltraUV™ shows signs of any water leakage, immediately unplug it from the power source.

• If the UltraUV™ falls into the water, DO NOT reach for it. First unplug and then retrieve it.

• Close supervision is necessary when the unit is used near children.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock:

• Connect only to a properly grounded receptacle, which is serviced by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter and never remove the ground pin from the plug.

• Provide a “drip loop” for the power cord. This is a loop in the cord below the level of the receptacle or plug that prevents water from traveling along the cord in the direction of the receptacle.

• ALWAYS unplug the UltraUV™ from power source when it is not in use, and before installing, removing or servicing the UltraUV™ components.

• If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with a proper rating should be used. A cord may overheat if the cord is rated for less amperes or watts than the unit rating.

• DO NOT immerse the UltraUV™ or plug in water or attempt to use a wet plug. • The UltraUV™ is NOT suitable for use in swimming pools, swimming ponds, or other situations

where bodily contact is made with the water. Although the UltraUV™ is designed for outdoor use, it should never be submerged in water.

Avoid contact with the UV light. Light omitted can be harmful to the eyes and skin. GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS – This appliance must be grounded. In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding will reduce the risk of electric shock by providing a path of least resistance for electric current. This appliance is equipped with a cord having an appliance-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.WARNING – Improper connection of the appliance-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service representative if you are in doubt whether the appliance is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the appliance; if it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified technician.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

Water flows from your pump, through the inlet of the UltraUV™, and into the UV chamber.

The UV chamber is designed to channel water around the bulb to maximize exposure of the pond water to the high output UV light.

The UV light then goes to work to clear and polish the pond water. You can see that the UV light is operating by the visible glow through the viewing window.

Water exits the UV chamber through the outlet and proceeds onto your biological filtration or back into your pond.

INSTALLING YOUR ULTRAUV™ CLARIFIER:

For Best Results• First pass water through a sponge filter

or skimmer to minimize debris coming in contact with UltraUV™.

• Place UltraUV™ before the biological filter.

• Run the UltraUV™ 24 hours a day.

• DO NOT operate during freezing conditions. Drain the UltraUV™ and store in a protected area.

Step 1Determine the LocationThe UltraUV™ should be placed outside of the pond where it can rest horizontally. Avoid locations that are prone to water puddles or areas where the UltraUV™ could fall into the pond. You can also mount the UV using the mounting brackets (screws not included).

Step 2Attach the FittingsATTACH the step down fittings to the inlet and outlet of the UltraUV™ with the compression ring. The o-rings should be between the UV housing and the step down fitting to create a watertight seal when secure.

Note: Water should flow into the UltraUV™ at one of the inlets closest to the power cord. Water should then flow out the unit at one of the outlets on the opposite end of the UltraUV™ filter. The inlet and outlet should NOT be directly across from one another.

MAINTAINING YOUR ULTRAUV™ CLARIFIER:

Tools Required: • Hacksaw • Flathead Screwdriver or Nut Driver


Step 4Connect PlumbingCONNECT plumbing and secure with a hose clamp (not included).

Step 5Start your PumpSTART your pump, then plug the UltraUV™ power cord into a standard 120-volt GFCI protected outlet. You will see a glow in the viewing window while unit is functioning.

Step 3Cut to SizeCUT step down fittings down to the largest connection that will work with your plumbing. Step down fittings offer options for use with 3/4”, 1”, 1-1/4” and 1-1/2” plumbing.

REPLACING THE UV BULB AND CLEANING/REPLACING THE QUARTZ SLEEVE:

WARNING: Before performing any maintenance, always unplug the UltraUV™ from the power source.

Step 1Remove ScrewsREMOVE the 4 screws on the end of the transformer housing. Use a flat head screw driver to carefully separate the two pieces and gently pull the unit apart.

Tools Required: • #2 Phillips Screwdriver• Flathead Screwdriver• Replacement UV Bulb• Soft, damp cloth• Descaler




Step 5Clean Quartz SleeveCLEAN the quartz sleeve with a soft cloth or sponge. The quartz sleeve should be cleaned yearly or when water clarity is reduced. You may find the use of a descaler such as Airmax D-Scale (#530298) helpful for removing debris. If the quartz sleeve is scratched, damaged, or cracked, it must be replaced.

Step 4Replace UV BulbTRANSFER the metal shield and the bulb protector cap to the new bulb. Insert the new bulb taking care not to touch the bulb as the oils from your hands can cause damage. UV bulb should be replaced yearly. See REPLACEMENT PARTS for replacement bulbs.

Step 2Unscrew the Compression Nut UNSCREW the compression nut and gently pull out the quartz sleeve.

Step 3Remove UV BulbPULL gently on the base of the UV bulb to remove. The metal shield will come out with the bulb.



Step 7Replace TransformerINSERT the transformer assembly back into the UV housing and secure with the 4 screws.

Step 8Test UVTEST the UV by plugging it in briefly. You will see a glow through the viewing window indicating that it is operating.

Step 6Reinstall Quartz SleeveREINSTALL the quartz sleeve and compression nut and screw to lock into place. The compression nut will stop spinning when the tab on the compression nut makes contact with the tab on the transformer. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.

TROUBLESHOOTING:*Note: For your safety, the UltraUV™ will not operate without the UV housing and transformer securely connected.

If water is not clear, check the following:

• Check the viewing window to ensure the UV bulb is lit. If not, replace the bulb. • If unit still does not light, replace the transformer.

• Replace UV bulb if it has not been replaced in the past year, even if it is lit.

• Check that the quartz sleeve is clean.

• Verify that the proper amount of water is flowing through the UV. See recommendation for proper water flow under Technical Specs.

Loss of water flow from the UV, check the following:

• Verify pump is not plugged with debris.

• Verify biological filter is not plugged with debris.
