Early Years

• Ulysses was born on April 27, 1882 ay Point Pleasant. Ohio. His father was Jesse Root Grant, a merchant. And his mother Hannah Simpson Grant. He was raised in Georgetown, Ohio. Although not a good student he was good in math.

The Civil War

• Grant rejoined the military when it first began as a Colonel of the 21st Illinois Infantry

• Before the Civil War, Grant was working in his father's leather store in Galena, Illinois

The Civil war part. 2

• On February 16, 1861 Grant one his first major war with 15,000 confederates that surrendered

• He was named unconditional surrender because he didn’t accept anything except unconditional surrender

The Civil War part. 3

• At the time of the war some started to question his leadership and general skills

• It was at the battle of Shiloh where General Ulysses S. Grant fought one of bloodiest battles, because of the event that occurred some wanted him removed but President Lincoln fended them off

The Confederacy Vanquished

• Ulysses S. Grant cut off any chance of escape to Richmond to Robert E. Lee

• On the day of April 9,1865 General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant at the Appomattox Courthouse

• Ulysses S. Grant had successfully ended the civil war

Presidency

• Ulysses was the 18th president and served 1869 to 1877

• He entered office on March 4,1869. At age 46 he was the youngest president

Scandals

• In 1872 Credit Mobilier scandal was exposed congress was going to launch an investigation but directors bribed government officials, consequently Grant took Schuyler Colfax of the Republican Ticket
