Howard Cavner (417) 693-2492 [email protected] Student organization receives grant to increase programs SPRINGFIELD—United Ministries in Higher Education at Missouri State University has received a grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. for $100,000. The grant is part of a national initiative to strengthen campus ministries in public universities. United Ministries in Higher Education is a student organization dedicated to helping college students make connections between their academic and spiritual lives. The grant will help create programs on campus for mentoring opportunities. Rev. Howard Cavner, United Ministries of Higher Education campus minister, said the grant is a game changer for the organization. “New partnerships continue to emerge that will allow us to assist students in discerning a call to ministry,” Cavner said. “Participating in our Lilly programs will provide students with mentoring that will enhance their education at Missouri State University and future faith driven experiences.” # About Missouri State University Missouri State University is a public, comprehensive metropolitan system with a statewide mission in public affairs, whose purpose is to develop educated persons. The university’s identity is distinguished by its public affairs mission, which entails a campus-wide commitment to foster expertise and responsibility in ethical leadership, cultural competence and community engagement. College of Humanities and Public Affairs The College of Humanities and Public Affairs offers 16 undergraduate, eight graduate and six certificate programs. Departments in the college include criminology and criminal justice, defense and strategic studies, economics, history, military science, philosophy, political science, religious studies, sociology and anthropology. The department of defense and strategic studies is housed in the Washington, D.C. area. The college helps students understand social, political and legal structures, ethical principles, religious systems, and economic institutions and practices within a global, historical, and contemporary context.
