The top-four finishers will advance to the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. LAST MEET The Kangaroos crowned three champions at the 2007 Mid-Con Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Junior Courtney Huber earned the gold medal in the women’s high jump after finishing with a height of 5-7, while fellow junior Sara Hiller finished first in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 40:17.55. Junior Sky Hagy was the lone UMKC men’s champion, as he finished first in the shot put with a mark of 50-7 1/4. In the three-day competition, the Kangaroos had a total of 15 student-athletes earn all-conference honors. In the team races, both the men’s and women’s squads finished fourth with 78 and 101 points, respectively. THE REGIONAL FIELD The women’s high jump event features one of the most competitive fields on the weekend. Ten of the top-25 high jumpers in the nation are competing in Columbia and they all fall within three inches of each other. Leading the pack is Alabama’s Miruna Mataoanu, who has cleared 6-1 (1.86 meters) this season. Mataoanu was the Mideast Regional champion a year ago and she finished sixth at the nationals. UMKC’s Courtney Huber, who qualified for the regional via the Mid-Con Championships, ranks 23rd out of the 24 competitors in the field. With a personal best of 5-8 1/2 (1.74 meters), Huber will be tested right out of the gates on Friday, as the opening height will be set at 5-7 1/4 (1.71 meters). HUBER BREAKS OUTDOOR SCHOOL RECORD Junior Courtney Huber broke the UMKC school record in the women’s high jump at the ESU Spring Twilight Meet on Mar. 15. The St. Peters, Mo., native finished with a height of 5-8 1/2. Huber previously shared the record with Lynette Williams at 5- 7. Huber now holds both the indoor and outdoor school records in school history. Her top indoor mark is 5-8. She currently has the top outdoor mark in the Mid-Con this season. This season, Huber has finished among the top-10 in all but one competition this season and she’s had eight top-two finishes. Among the top-two finishes, the jun- ior has won six meet titles, which includes both the Mid-Con indoor and outdoor gold medals. COACH HAMILTON Theo Hamilton is in his fourth season as the head coach of the UMKC track and field and cross country teams. In each of the last two seasons, Hamilton has guid- ed the Kangaroos to fourth place finishes at the Mid-Con Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
