As I embark upon a new position I feel a little apprehension about filling the shoes I am trying to fill. Sandy did a

wonderful job getting us further forward in stabilizing the mechanics of running an active, large organization. The auxiliary is now run more like a corporation. This became necessary because of all the rules and regulations placed upon us by the Joint Commission and HIPPA. I hope to maintain our organizational stature and perhaps improve some things even more.

We are going to have many challenges with all the NEw CONSTruCTION and we will need to work closely together, and be patient, to work through these problems. We are at 650(+-) members now in the Auxiliary and as construction is completed we will need to expand to at least 150 more volunteers. We are going to be asked to make many changes in job descriptions and maybe even add more/different job descriptions. I know that the “IN SErvICE” mEETINgS aren’t always fun to attend but they are very important, and will become even more important with all the changes and the new construction. They are also a means to keep up-to-date and to meet your fellow volunteers who work on different days. It is always interesting to hear of other situations involving your job and how they are handled, as well as relate your experiences. Much can be learned and in that way everyone is “on the same page.”

Our new lOg IN/OuT PrOCEDurE is a new process that we all need to get used to. It will be much more efficient and easier for the volunteers that work in the office trying to keep track of the hours we all are working. I’m sure you can imagine the HOURS that they spent manually adding up and keeping track of all the hours for over 650 volunteers. Yes, there are glitches in the new system, as there are in any new system, but we are working hard to get things worked out. We have constant communication with the programmers trying to get everything fixed. Please let the office staff know if there are any problems with your hours BUT please be patient and polite. They are volunteers too.

I will try to be available as much as possible. You may call me at 786-556-3462 or email me at [email protected] . I am always open to listen to suggestions or concerns. We are all volunteers and we need to work together towards a common goal.

Thank you for all that you do and for your patience while we make all of these transitions.

Theresa M. McFadden, 72, The Villages, FL passed away March 29, 2014. After moving to the Villages, Fl. in

2000, she unselfishly volunteered over 12,000 hours of her time to the Villages Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Her duties consisted of various positions including office manager and President of the Auxiliary for several years. She was awarded a “Lifetime Honorary Member of the Auxiliary”.

wE ExTEND a hugE wElCOmE TO …walter f. Zielinski, Ph DExecutive Director TVRH Auxiliary Foundation

I was fortunate to meet Walter who is a Philanthropy Leadership

Professional, with extensive knowledge and experience in philanthropy, giving, charity and community relations which makes him well qualified for his new role

with TVRH Auxiliary Foundation.

He graduated in 1995 from Union Institute and University with a Dissertation on Transformation Leadership in Corporate and Higher Education, and received a diploma from Harvard University for Educational Management.

Walter has worked as Vice President for Institutional Advancement Beacon College, Leesburg, Florida, and as President, of MedCentral College of Nursing in Mansfield, Ohio.

He is married with two daughters, and looks forward to developing a Hospital Foundation that is poised for growth. The Best Is Yet to Come!

As the editor of The Hummingbird, I am always checking out areas of our Auxiliary that I think volunteers would like to know about. So I went to

meet our staff in the Foundation office. The office is located on the second floor of the East Campus.

I was greeted with enthusiasm by the ladies of the support team, Millie Barbarite, Barbara Richardson and Bonnie Albion. We talked about the Foundation and I learned that Dick Campbell, our President, has stepped down and is now taking a more supporting roll. The TVRH has hired a new Executive Director for the Foundation.

In addition to the Auxiliary fundraisers we work at, Thrift Shop, Gift Shop, and Café, the Foundation raises the big dollars with events such as the Gala, Cabarat, SEE’s Candy Sale, the Cruise, Bricks, and so forth. It’s a lot of work, organization and detail work and also requires additional hours from our volunteers. We plan to communicate to all the volunteers through The Hummingbird so you can share the information with understanding.

Philanthropic support plays an essential role at The Villages Regional Hospital (TVRH). Part of a not-

for-profit health care system, TVRH was built in 2002 as a 63-bed facility and has more than tripled in size to 223 beds. Plans call for an additional 100 beds to be added in 2015, which is where the foundation comes in.

The Villages Regional Hospital Auxiliary Foundation exists solely to support the mission of TVRH as well as the programs and services it provides. The foundation is charged with securing funds to support the efforts of the hospital to improve patient care.

Our not-for-profit organization was founded in 2013. It is an outgrowth of years of dedicated service by the hospital Auxiliary–whose 600+ members provide comfort to patients and their families through direct contact, supportive services, and fundraising.

Our hospital is growing and working hard to respond to the needs of those we serve. We couldn’t do this without our physicians, team members, administrative staff, board members, volunteers—and you, our donors. To date, the auxiliary has raised more than $1 million that has enabled the hospital to purchase leading-edge equipment. Your support and commitment help our hospital meet the challenges of today and those of the future.

CruISE wINNEr

Shelly morjoseph was sitting on the Square

at Spanish Springs last fall trying to get donations for the hospital Auxiliary that would then enter the donor into a chance to win a free cruise for two from Ocala Travel. One of the vendors selling hats on the square that night noticed no one was stopping at his table and took pity on him. She decided to make the first donation and that empathetic person’s name was drawn as the winner the night of the Hearts for Our Hospital Gala. Mona Carrasquillo and her niece will be sailing with the Auxiliary members on their May 10th Royal Caribbean 7-night cruise to the Western Caribbean on the OASIS of the SEAS. The cruise for was donated by Ocala Travel located in Palm Ridge Plaza near Southern Trace as part of their partnership with the hospital Auxiliary Foundation.

This is the eleventh cruise organized by Shelly to help raise fund for the Auxiliary in support of our hospital.

SEE’S CaNDIES

Our next fundraiser

may be over by the time you see this article, but we want to keep you aware of the ongoing efforts we are making to achieve our financial commitment to the hospital.

The actual sale will be Saturday, May 3, 2014, from 11:00 am -3:00 pm at Belk’s in The Villages. The week prior, customers can call and order their candy and pick them up at Belks to save waiting in a line. All proceeds benefit the Villages Regional Hospital, and is sponsored by the TVRH Auxiliary Foundation.

Shelly Morjoseph started the SEE’S CANDY sale in 2007. Leadership at the time were skeptic, but it has proven to be very profitable, raising over $18,000. Shelly and his team, Jeannie Rogale, Joan Rogan and Bonnie Albion also sell candy at Christmas and Easter as well.

mEET ShElly mOrJOSEPh

Shelly Morjoseph began volunteering

for TVRH in December 2002. He started as Chair for the Materials Management team, which he still does. Since then, he has become active in fundraising and now

spends a lot of time “keeping busy raising money” at the square, promoting the cruise and See’s Candies, and then rewards himself by going on the cruise too!

Shelly is also beginning his second term as our Vice President. He has found a rewarding outlet for his senior season of life. Thank you, Shelly.
