Water and Wastewater treatmentWe develop solutions for wastewater treatment by means of processes analysis, testing procedures and material flow balances.

In cooperation with our industrial and governmental partners we develop and implement innovative solutions for wastewater problems. In this context we chemically analyze for pollutants and develop test procedures as well as full scale treatment processes. Our particular focus lies on micropollutants, heavy metals and nanomaterials in urban wastewaters.

    ■ Development of processes for wastewater treatment ■ monitoring the success of treatment measures ■ Determining emissions of building materials, assessing environmental risk

Odor managementthe Department of Odor management is unique in switzerland. Our expertise lies in industrial emission measurements, development of odor management systems and odor identification and evaluation in products (building materials, textiles, hygiene products). We also assess the effectiveness of odor reduction measures by means of modeling.

    ■ On-site measurements of odor emissions ■ evaluation of odor impact on residents ■ testing odor characteristics of products

natural resources and process engineeringthis Department is focused on mechanical processing of primary and secondary raw materials. In our uniquely equipped mechanical processing laboratory we develop processes for the separation of solid materials and phase separation. UmteC is switzerland’s most well known university institute active in waste recycling. numerous patents in the field indicate our innovative potential.

    ■ recovery of rare metals from e-waste ■ metals extraction from incineration residues ■ Development of innovative separation applications and processes

Waste and resource efficiencyIn our projects and research work we focus mainly on waste incineration and the environmentally sound disposal of the residues. energy and resource efficiency are of central importance when designing these processes. Our activities also include practice-oriented knowledge transfer in the form of training and continued adult education.

    ■ research and process development in the area of thermal waste processing ■ analysis of residues ■ Continued education in energy and resource efficiency at the WerZ Insti-

tute for Knowledge, energy and natural resources Zug, www.werz.hsr.ch
