Why Housing at the Centre?

PresenterPresentation NotesUN-Habitat provides policy advice and technical assistance to national, regional and city authorities to formulate and implement policies and programmes to increase the supply of adequate housing, prevent the formation of new slums, and to improve living conditions in existing slums.

DIAGNOSTIC AND ASSESSMENT - a systematic analysis of slum conditions, the housing needs and demand, delivery systems and markets with the aim to disclose bottlenecks, identify gaps, opportunities, priority areas for action and inform policy review and formulation

POLICY REVIEW AND FORMULATION - to reform and/or formulate housing and slum upgrading policy and regulatory frameworks through participatory processes

POLICY IMPLEMENTATION focusing on the development of feasible responses and programmes to achieve the policy goals and priorities in the housing sector, including the elaboration (Action Plan, timeframe and financial plans).

HOUSING PROFILE is a diagnostic tool that unravels the constraints and contributes for a well-informed policy development process. UN-Habitat has assisted more than 15 countries to elaborate their National Housing Profiles

HOUSING POLICY: In the majority of countries where the Housing Profile was conducted, it has triggered a number of housing responses and
