Re: Assessor’s Office October Monthly Activity Report

The month of October has been very productive in the assessment office. As of the writing of this report I am

very proud to report that with the exception of a small handful of parcels the preparation of responses and

actual hearings for the 2016 assessment year have been concluded. I have to once again say how proud I am

of the assessment team for their hard work, commitment to listening to taxpayers concerns, attempts in

resolving assessment issues at the local level and preparing timely and well thought out responses regarding

assessment appeals for formal responses to the McHenry County Board of Review.

With the outstanding weather we have been experiencing, our data collection team has been spending a great

deal of time out in the field closing out building permits, updates and continuing our strong push on updating

photographs. Once again I would like to remind everyone how important it is in the assessment process to

have up to date information for the properties in the township, it is the foundation that fair and equitable

assessments are based on. I know when most people receive a visit from the assessment office they are not

typically too happy to see us, however please keep in mind when you encounter staff members this is not

only a time for them to collect information but also a chance for you to share concerns with them and if they

are not able to answer all of your questions or concerns they will be very happy to direct you to the best

resource to assist you.

The office support staff is busy processing the building permits that have been flowing thru the office and

having them prepared for our data collection team to visit. In addition, the support staff has been very busy

processing the Real Estate Transfer Declarations. This involves not only the actual entering of this

information, it also includes verification of the sales information which is gathered thru multiple resources

and may result in the creating of an update for our data collection team. Our support staff of course will

continue to cover the incoming telephone, lobby, e-mail and fax activity.

The deputy assessors are anxiously awaiting the roll-over of the CAMA system to begin the 2017 assessment

year changes. I anticipate this will occur by the beginning of the second week of November, as we still have

some final cleanup for the 2016 assessment cycle. The deputy assessors will continue to monitor the sales

activity that is occurring. In addition, we will continue to improve the data available on your web-site and

continue the work that is required leading up to the 2019 General Assessment Year.

Please feel free to share any questions or concerns with me anytime.

Sincerely,

Mark S. Dzemske

Nunda Township Assessor

Final Comments

The monthly reports are prepared with the full intention of demonstrating transparency in the operation of the

assessment office to the town board and the taxpayers. In addition we are attempting to detail the return on the

resources the taxpayers continue to provide for the operation of the township assessor’s office.

We have attempted to demonstrate this thru the documented productivity, quality of service, availability of quality

resources (Staff, Website, etc.) and high quality documented data all provided to the well-deserved taxpayers of

Nunda Township.

Openness, accountability, and honesty define government transparency. In a free society, transparency is

government’s obligation to share information with citizens. It is at the heart of how citizens hold their public

officials accountable.

If there is additional information the town board or the taxpayer wishes to see as part of these monthly reports

please feel free to contact me either at 815-459-6140 or [email protected]
