1 st LU Student named Texas State University Systems Regents’ Student Scholar Senior, Keeley Townley-Smith a Physics and Electrical Engineer major, has been named Texas State University system Regents’ Student Scholar. She became the first at Lamar to receive such a prestige’s honor. Keeley is a recipient of the 2014 OUR Grant and participant very actively in all OUR activities. 3rd Annual Texas STEM Conference 2015

The 3rd Annual Texas STEM Conference was held Saturday, October 3, 2015 in the Setzer Student Center, at Lamar University.

The STEM Conference provided undergraduate and graduate students alike the opportunity to integrate science, technology, engineering and mathematics from Texas to Louisiana. The Conference included Oral Presentations and Poster Presentation with 43 presenters.

Dr. Albert M.K. Cheng, Professor of Computer Science from the University of Houston, was the plenary speaker for the conference.

On October 29, 2015, The Office of Undergraduate Research Department announced 22 winners (19 proposals) for the 3rd Annual grant proposal contest for students pursing undergraduate research. The recipients are Natalie Hudson, Julia Richardson, Carlos Caballero, Christina Guerra, Kyle Edwards, Manisha Patel, John Pickren, Merideth Chilton, Kaitlin Taylor, Emmy Hammonds, Nicolas Nikoloutsos, Stephanie Bermudez, Ashlain McGriff, Brooke Herrin, Jordan Goldstein, Maci Reeves, and Chelsea McDonald. Not pictured: Omar Aguilar, Omar Gonzalez, Trent Shoefstall, Jamie Stafford and Jiaxuan Xu. The involvement of undergraduate students in collaborative research and creative activity with faculty members is a proven and powerful practice considering the many educational benefits gained by students.

Each student has been awarded up to $1,000 for undergraduate research support along with a $500 stipend. The grant recipients will submit a report detailing their research outcomes and present their findings at the Lamar University Research EXPO on April 20th. A special thank you to Dr. Kenneth Evans and Dr. James Marquart for their continue support to OUR and thank you to the families and mentors that came out to support the 2015-16 Grant Recipients.

O.U.R. hosts 2nd Annual Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences & Education Conference 2015

The Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences & Education Conference was held on Saturday, November 14th in the Lucas Engineering Building, at Lamar University. The popular all day event brought together some of the most innovative research from all over Texas.

While the Office of the Undergraduate Research has hosted the HASS Conference before, this was the first time for O.U.R to host the conference which; included Education. Hats off to the 31 presenters; awesome job!

SUMMER UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP 2016

2016 OUR Faculty Mentoring Award

The Office of Undergraduate Research is pleased to announce the 2016 Faculty Mentor Award to honor an Undergraduate

Research Mentor for his/her success in mentoring undergraduate students in research.

The OUR Advisory Committee will review the completed applications and determine the award winner. The winning

mentor will be recognized at the 3rd Undergraduate Research Expo scheduled for April 20th.

We look forward to reading your applications and learning about the experiences and successes undergraduate students

are having in undergraduate research. **Submission deadline March 25th**

SURF into the summer with the first ever Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)-2016. O.U.R. is inviting applications from undergraduate students to explore their field of study by engaging them in creative activities and research work mentored by LU faculty member. Each student, whose project is approved, will be awarded a stipend of $2,000, up to $1,000 for research support, FREE housing during the summer at Cardinal Village and an opportunity to present at our own STEM and/or HASSE Conference. **Important Information** Application Deadline
