Engineered Composition

Gilsulate®500XR is comprisedprimarily of two inert, inorganic,non-toxic minerals: calcium carbonateand sodium potassium aluminum sili-cate which are all coated to behydrophobic. The particles of this dry,free-flowing granular material are multi-sized & multi-faceted, providing the sta-bility required by soil engineers for aload-bearing productGilsulate®500XR is consolidated priorto backfill ensuring that envelopedimensions and designed system effi-ciencies will not change

Innovation & Reliability

Gilsulate®500XR has a proven trackrecord of performance and reliability, insulating and protecting more pipingsystems and tanks, for more years, thanany other granular/powder insulation. From particulate engineering to pack-aging, virtually every technologicalinnovation in the poured-in-place under-ground pipe insulation and protectionsystem market can be directly attributedto the continual product improvement ofGilsulate®.

Markets

Educational, chemical, food & bever-age, pulp & paper, refining, pharma-ceutical, industrial, military, govern-ment and power.

Limitations

Underground areas with flowing wateror a positive underground water sourceshould be avoided when designing orinstalling an underground piping sys-tem. For specific project recommenda-tions, contact our office.

Consolidated prior to backfill, the Gilsulate envelope will notshrink or settle. This assures that envelope dimensions and

thermal efficiencies are sustained as designed.

4. Technical Data•Temperature Range: 35 °F to 800 °F.•Use Density: 40-42 lb./cu.ft. consoli-dated or compacted - the lower thedensity the higher the thermal efficiency

•Load Bearing Stability: 12,000 p.s.f.(58,600 Kg/M3) - multi-sized & multi-faceted particles make the most stableproduct

•Resistance to Moisture Penetration:Product is certified 100% hydrophobic(will not absorb water). Equal to orgreater than 48” hydrostatic head for30 days (S-249 Test)

•Electrical Resistivity: Greater than1012 ohm-cm. - Galvanic actionbetween piping and the soil is prevent-ed

•Thermal Conductivity: ASTM C 177consolidated or compactedExpressed as BTU/hr/ft2/°F/in.100 °F K=0.53 175 °F K=0.60 300 °F K=0.65

5. InstallationInstallation of Gilsulate®500XR is quickand easy; however, it is critical that cor-rect placement procedures are fol-lowed. Additional materials suppliedby other manufacturers are required.Refer to GII's current 24 page “DesignAnd Installation Manual” for completedetails and requirements of the installa-tion process. Gilsulate®500XR isstocked at our plants and strategicallylocated warehouses, our network ofManufacturers Representative's ware-houses and stocking distributorsthroughout the USA and Canada.Immediate shipments are availablefrom a location economically conven-ient to your project.

Gilsulate®500XR has always beenpackaged and sold per cubic foot at itsconsolidated/compacted density tomake estimating the volume and cost ofyour project quick and easy. It is notsold in loose bulk density. Additionalmaterial consideration for “yield loss-es” due to loose bulk density pricingisn't required when purchasingGilsulate®500XR.

6. Availability & CostGilsulate®500XR's patented formulationis manufactured in Dalton, Georgiaand North Hollywood, CA.Gilsulate®500XR is packaged in multi-ply, bilingual paper bags, 40-42 lbs.net weight, containing one cubic foot ofinsulation at the recommended use den-sity, shipped on pallets with stretchwrap, 60 bags per pallet, 18 palletsper truckload (1080 cubic feet total).Gilsulate®500XR is also available inour innovative bulk bag. It contains thelargest volume in the industry, savingtime and money in the placement of thematerial. Each reinforced polypropy-lene bulk bag contains 2,400 lbs. netweight or 60 cubic feet of material, atthe recommended use density.Gilsulate®500XR has the lowest laborcost to install compared to field appliedjacketed insulation systems or compli-cated mechanical systems. A standardsteam-condensate system insulated withGilsulate®500XR will have the lowestoperational cost.
