Medicare Levy Surcharge (MLS)

All civilians pay the 2.0% Medicare Levy

(through tax return)

Surcharge (MLS) applies to higher income

earners without an appropriate level of

Full-time ADF personnel are exempt

combined income exceeds threshold

Lifetime Health Cover Loading (LHC)

Penalty for over 30s when you eventually

take out private hospital cover

2% loading on premium for each year over

age 30 without cover to max 70

Loading is removed after 10 continuous

years of hospital cover
