LOSS HISTORY GUIDELINES Loss history plays an important role in assessing the quality of a risk. Past losses may be an indicator of future claims potential. For each Tier of coverage HUSA has established Rules around claims history. The chart below outlines the requirements by Tier.
Ultra Plus Core
No claims last 3 years No more than 1 claim in last
3 years and no more than
$25,000 total
No more than 2 claims in last
3 years and no more than
$25,000 total
For the purpose of determining eligibility for a Tier, the underwriter should include the past three
full years plus the current year of losses. All loss data must be currently valued (within 90 days).
Certain clams may be recorded in a loss history but are not considered an indicator of future
loss potential. For claims of this nature the underwriter may exclude them from the loss history.
These include:
» Any claims closed without payment
» Property claims due to catastrophic losses outside of the insured’s control (e.g. wind,
hail, earthquake, wildfire)
» Claims for which the condition that contributed to the claim has been mitigated or
remediated (e.g. a water damage claim that resulted from a leaking fixture where the
fixture has been replaced)
» Incidental claims under $1,000 where a claim file was established but no material loss
exists (e.g. a claim was established to pay an attorney to write a letter to get the claim
dismissed)
Claims history must be entered in HQS under the Policy History section.

SPECIAL TOPICS
COASTAL WIND
HUSA is a market for business in near proximity to coastal bodies of water, as part of a balanced book of business. Our competitive eligibility depends on several factors, including construction type, distance from the coast and the state in which the applicant is located. Based on these criteria, a risk may be ineligible for wind coverage, there may be no mandated wind deductible, a flat deductible, or a percent deductible may be required that includes a minimum dollar amount, before a wind damage claim will be considered for payment. Mandated wind percentage deductibles range from 1%-5%, with the availability of deductibles from 6% to 10%, in one percent increments. These may be used as an effective tactic to reduce the applicant’s premium for this coverage. Please refer to the table below regarding HUSA Wind Eligibility and Deductible Guidelines. Also
note that ‘All Other Peril’ deductibles may be different than the corresponding wind deductible, based on state, construction, and distance from the coast. Moreover, Business Interruption, Utility Services Direct Damage, and Utility Services Time Element coverage may be sub-limited in certain areas close to the coast.
WIND ELIGIBILITY TABLE
Please refer to the table below regarding HUSA eligibility and minimum wind deductibles by state and distance to coast. If the state is not listed there is no mandated minimum wind deductible.
