Technical assistance to complement the humanitarian efforts of the Government and UN system with an objective to enhance the resilience of the education sector. Capacity building of education personnel including township education officers, school principals, teachers in disaster response and resilience in educational administration and management. Capacity building in school-based disaster risk reduction for affected communities living in eight townships severely affected in Ayeyarwady and Yangon Divisions.
Developed a capacity Building package in DRR in Education in English and translated to local language. A glossary book and various Information, Education and Communication materials have been developed, including an activity book and a set of nine posters in disaster preparedness which are being implemented at the class room level. 2,102 school principals and teachers Trained in DRR. 72 Master Trainers Trained to train local school principals and teachers. Approximately 400,000 students benefited from IEC materials and from their teachers.

ICHARM co-organized this WS on flash flood risk management with two other UNESCO category 2 centres (HTC-Malysia and RCUWM-Iran) in Kuala Lumpur from 10 to 13 August 2009. During this workshop, theoretical visions on the forming procedure of flash floods along with general information by considering the participants level on different managerial methods for these kinds of floods presented.
The main goal of this project was capacity development on flash flood management in arid and semi-arid areas. The outcomes would be to enable the participants to prepare strategic plans in this respect.
