‘UNHEARD’My Music Magazine Pitch

Page 2: Unheard (1)

GenreThe genre(s) I have chosen for ‘UNHEARD’ will be based upon a mixture of Rock, Indie, Alternative and Metal style music. This also includes the sub genres of ‘indie-rock, alternative-metal’ etc. The reason why I chose these genres are due to the fact I listen to this type of music on a daily basis. I am particularly familiar with the style and the production of the sound being created as I have been to many gigs/shows which perform these genres. I also understand many other production techniques as I know people who perform in shows or who have made Eps or successful recordings. Overall music in general captivates anyone's emotions or relates to a person in an unspeakable context. However I believe genres of music with a mixture of an electronic instruments can create an overwhelming sound of modernisation in society and the journey that new technology has taken. I want my magazine to captivate this journey and to show the modernization of unknown artists that have potential in the musical industry.

NAME OF MAGAZINEI have chosen the name ‘UNHEARD’ as it signifies something that is not

regularly discussed or listened too. It can also mean something that hasn’t previously been done or known of. That is the element I want to convey in my magazine, I want their to be features of artists or bands that are not well known and that have significant, unique quality's to them that doesn’t brand with stereotypical chart music. However the musicians have to fit within the genre and sub genres otherwise it wouldn’t contrast with the running theme of ‘unheard’ artists in the modern music industry.

Editorial mission statement& Tagline ‘Hear me out!’

My mission for UNHEARD is to widen views on music, to show the potential of ‘UNHEARD’ artists and to convince/spread the word of all the featured, aspiring musicians.

Unique Selling Point

UNHEARD will be designed to appeal to teenagers and young adults that enjoy my music magazine genres. The unknown musicians that will be featuring in my magazine are around the ages of 16 and above. Therefore I believe my audience would be able to relate to the context as they are around the same ages as those musicians featuring in my magazine. Bands and musicians such as JAWS, Bwani Junction, Pixel Fix etc will be good role’s for the basis of my magazine as they are vaguely known artists, however not the extent of being signed. They will play ‘UNHEARD’ sets and will hopefully give an insider on recordings or other artists that deserve recognition, due to them being unknown. UNHEARD will also have discounts on tracks and recordings or free downloads to different songs. With the occasional giveaway on priority tickets to influential, well known artists or local gigs in smaller venues.

Reader profileYoung male/female student aged 16 and above with a part time job and

studies a mixture of creative and academic subjects. They play a mixture of instruments with can range from classical to electric. If they don’t play an instrument they usually have a good singing voice. Their family is considered as music orientated/ educated however not boastful with their talent in performing or education in specific genres. They learn songs or write songs on a daily basis and reads many album or gig reviews as possible. They also try to go to as many live music events as possible ranging from festivals to gigs and charity events. However they are starting to become tiresome of listening to overrated artists and their mediocre albums. They need something to regain their youthful interest in music and to find fresh, aspiring artists with potential in a new, accessible magazine…

Magazine Covers Of Interest Unfortunately the front cover looks fairly overwhelming due to their being a lot of text and the callout being in a large font. The image also includes all the band members which can be unsettling as there is lots to visualise. However I believe the colour scheme is very powerful and attractive to the eye. They have stuck to a minimum of three colours that contrast well and make the text look appealing. I want to replicate this in my magazine by picking 3 colours that contrast well and brighten the look of the magazine.

Page 9: Unheard (1)

This isn't a music magazine, however I believe the font used on the front cover is varied and very enticing. The font for ‘Hello Spring’ looks similar to a writing font which many implicate the target audience of the magazine. In my music magazine I want the font on the front cover to attract my initial target audience.

The image in the Rolling stone magazine is considered different to the usual white background on most magazine covers. On my front cover I want to use an image with a background that will bleed off the edges and will add colour to the magazine. However the background cant be too overwhelming otherwise it will take away all the attention from the text and logo.
