Abstract

Unimoon is a Decentralized Media(DeMe) network built to create moreself-sovereignty for individual users and the energy they commit tointeraction. The energy, popularity, reach and engagement of mediaobjects is represented through the use of the Unimoon coin. When apiece of media is created and published the efficacy and absorptionradius of that media is measured by its Social ActivityCoefficient(SAC). The Unimoon platform will dynamically calculatethe SAC value of an individual piece of media based upon that mediaobjectā€™s engagement curve over the course of its lifetime receivingUnimoon coin rewards. Users who interact with ā€“ view, amplify, modify, create ā€“ a media object will receive Unimoon tokens based onthe accrued SAC value. Unimoon holders are incentivized to unlockutility of the token through various mechanisms that allow tokens tobe utilized within the Unimoon network and ecosystem. The goal ofUnimoon token mechanics is to incentivize healthy growth of contentand services while creating more transparency for the exchange ofhuman energy to nearly instant realized value distinguished by auserā€™s uploaded media objectā€™s engagement curve on the networkthrough a decentralized social media platform.

Introduction

Unimoon - while taking cues from the established virality of theMemecosystem, aims to refactor social media for the next generationof users that have an expectation of ownership, higher level ofprivacy, and greater control of their created content. Incumbentsocial network platforms have demonstrated various degrees of failureregarding user empowerment and sovereignty. We believe that with thematurity of Blockchain data structures and the use of PKI mechanicshigher-up in the application stack, there is a better way to allowusers to assert self-sovereignty over their electronic personas. Inaddition to retaining authoritative control over their createdcontent, we believe users are not properly compensated for theiractivity spent within social networks: be it viewing, posting, creating, discussing or collaborating. We believe the Unimoon tokenwill represent a fairer ecosystem for creation and consumption ofmedia between users because of the decentralized economy anddecentralization of (social) media, DeMe. This is to saydisintermediating the social media world with programmatically soundcomputer code will replace the traditional social media platforms weall use today prioritizing users first through users having ownershipand better control of media objects uploaded to the network. This isonly possible in a truly decentralized economy.

Motivation, The Market, and Gaps

The current super majority of social networking platforms is highlycentralized and managed. In the past several years leaders haveemerged that represent various groups and engagement modalities.Facebook for friends and family activities, Twitter for anonymousshit posting, Instagram for visually optimizing your life, LinkedInfor optimizing your professional life, and TikTok for shorteasy-to-digest videos tailored for your interests. Each platformallows users to post, update and share content, ranging fromtext-based content to rich-media content. Current social mediaplatforms have evolved - using the same basic features - to servicetopic-based market verticals, which is where each platform draws itsdifferentiation from. We looked at the current landscape of socialmedia giants and realized innovation has all but disappeared over the

2

past five years, along with the evaporation of user control andcontent ownership. Continually social media companies treat theirusers as products instead of content creators.

Figure 1. Percentage of US adults using various social mediaplatforms [Pew Research]

While the adoption of social networking platforms has steadilyincreased over the years, what has emerged is fragmented usage basedupon what role a user wants to play relative to their social network.

3

It is part of our thesis that use of generalized social mediaplatforms by users will decrease over the next five years, with usersonly engaging with social media for specific event-driven reasons, instead of broadly consuming content. We think this decline comesfrom a lack of incentive structure that allows a user to truly owntheir online presence, content and experience.

The Problem

At this time the core problem with social networking platforms islack of sovereignty for individual users. Each user relies solely onthe features and functionality afforded by the social mediaplatforms. While these platforms have invested heavily in making acohesive experience - through the development of mobile and desktopapplications, integrations with 3rd-party services, evolution ofdeveloper ecosystems - social media platforms have focused on twoprimary mechanisms to ensure their engagement stability:

Identity - each social media platform has a nativeidentity mechanism that associates a userā€™s selectedpersona to content and activities in the ecosystem.

Engagement Model - each social media platform hasgeneralized CRUD(Create, Read, Update, Delete) contentmechanics for the population. The reduced frictionbetween user and platform in creating/consuming contenthas allowed platforms to create heuristics on time-seriesdata naturally created by user activity, making users theproduct the platform offers to 3rd-parties.

With current technology itā€™s not realistic that individual users -even cohorts of users - create a fully-featured social mediaplatform. Heuristics + Identity have created incentive mechanisms tofavor supporting the organizations and ensuring longevity of businessprocesses. The distribution of media and the true value of a mediaobject on traditional platforms is completely skewed as adistribution platform.

For Web3, the current problem the Unimoon team aims to solve is thetechnological gap the average user has regarding cryptocurrency.Despite having many benefits and allowing the disintermediation offinancial services, people can't take advantage because they simplydon't know how and the curve is too steep for most to learn. Byproviding a familiar user experience, Unimoon is targeting mass

4

adoption of crypto-related technologies while not introducingfriction to the social media experience.

In addition, there are still inefficiencies to be explored with thecurrent content distribution models including all social media (FB,Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok) and entertainment mediaplatforms (Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video) with whom primarily benefitsthe most from the exponential growth that the platforms experiencedue to the demand of fresh targeted content.

ā€œTechnology has ended ownership but can now reinvent it. Against bigtech dominance, regulators, creators and consumers are reasserting the

benefits of owning thingsā€1

The Solution

Because of walled gardens leading social networking platforms havecreated, primarily showing apathy towards identity sovereignty forindividuals and the attention they contribute to networks, theUnimoon team formed an experiment to provide an alternative. Lookingto create a user-focused social media platform while at the same timehelping to provide thought leadership and detail to the emergingDecentralized Media space.

Use Cases: Utility + Governance

Social Media Application (uMoon)

Itā€™s critical to have the first application using the Unimoonplatform be something that is recognized by consumer users. As we aretargeting the consumer user cohort, our goal is to provide a familiarsocial media experience to platform users. Providing standardfeatures such as publishing content, discovering content, andconnecting with other users on the platform is required in additionto the main new feature of calculating and distributing nativeUnimoon coin based on the calulated SAC values from the L1 smartcontracts. While the initial MVP release of this application will

5

provide basic social features it is expected future iterations willexplore and expand use cases that are exposed when a web threecommunity reaches critical mass.

NFT Minting, Management and Market-Making

Along with creating and managing content, providing users the abilityto certify and establish provenance of their content is a key pillarof the Unimoon project. Part of the Unimoon teamā€™s thesis is thatuniquely identifying content and establishing ownership from thecontent creator will allow interesting dynamics to emerge across thenetwork. The team plans to explore giving individual users afamiliar and seamless experience to create an NFT from their socialmedia profile. We believe empowering an individual user to create anNFT from their social media post and profile will create interestingapplications of the NFT construct. This will include a dashboard ofuserā€™s social media data analytics of engagement information, whichwill create a fairer and more transparent marketplace.

Identity Wallet

The Unimoon team holds as a core tenant they write for individualusers to assert their self-sovereignty. While reviewing existingsocial media platforms it became apparent that platform nativedigital identity solutions are an impairment to users controllingtheir personas, online and in the physical world. Blockchain datastructures, along with PKI designs and the emerging DecentralizedIdentifiers specification from the W3C, supply the means for users toauthoritatively demonstrate provenance for electronic transactions. The Unimoon project looks forward to experimenting use cases thatintegrate a familiar consumer application experience withdecentralized technologies.

Streaming Application

We expect many consumer users to interact with the Unimoon platformin similar ways that users interact with familiar social mediaplatforms today. The Unimoon team recognizes that ecosystems oftenhave power users, and in the case of social networking platforms, those power users are often represented by content creators. TheUnimoon team feels that content creators appreciate an enhancedcreative and publishing experience and want to make it great toprovide real-time high-quality media to platform users.

Advertising

Unimoon Coin as an Advertising Currency Unit

Unimoon coin will be the only supported currency unit foradvertisement from within the entire Unimoon ecosystem and with allfuture DApps built on top of Unimoon L1. The first social mediaapplication, uMoon, will support advertisements along with having anextensive dashboard for a rich set of data and analytics foradvertisers to have more confidence optimizing on marketing budget toachieve specific campaign goals. Such targeting will be based on dataacquired from the social media application but not limited tointerests, age, geolocation, and user behavior. This creates anatural equilibrium between the demand of the Unimoon coin and therewards distributed to engaged Users of uMoon.

Advanced Advertising System

There will be multiple avenues to advertise on the platform similarto traditional advertisements seen through Facebook, Instagram, andTikTok. Similar to traditional advertising auction systems, advertisers can choose to use manual or automatic bidding withdefined parameters of budget and other KPIs such as CPC, CPM, CPA,CPL, CTR, and CR depending on an advertiserā€™s targets and campaignobjectives. Additionally advertisers will have more options foradvertising with direct influencer marketing selections straight onthe social media profiles. With direct influencer marketing options, advertisers can book advertising slots directly. Advertisers canselect target audiences with the dashboard and select specificcampaign objectives.

The advertising revenue generated from the Unimoon platform willprogrammatically re-distribute to holders of Unimoon as an additionalreward mechanism for holding. This is another utility that creates amore balanced ecosystem between the rewards distributed from socialactivities and the rewards distributed from the advertising revenue. It creates a fairer distribution of value. The network will takeapproximately 20%(not a standard split so percentage taken for thenetwork may be smaller depending on the function) of all revenuegenerated including advertising, premium content, subscriptions, NFTcrowdloans and other revenue generation which will be used foroperational expenses such as the social activity rewards, foundation, transaction fees, minting NFTs. In this way transactions on thenetwork can potentially be free.

7

Governance

The Unimoon layer 1 will have a DAO that will help regulate and shapethe future ecosystem of the network. The goal is to provide adecentralized system under the democratic supervision of a multi-bodycensorship-resistant governance protocol. This way the governancewill have checks and balances to rid collusion and any one personfrom having too much influence within the protocol. No single body orcommittee will have the ability to propose and decide a specificdecision which creates a separation of power to avoid self-selection.

The multi-body governance will implement verifiable credentialsattesting to specific qualifications as necessary for efficiency andoptimized for professional solutions as required for proper and fairUnimoon governance.

Network Considerations

Validators

While the launch of the testnet will be supported by the Unimoonteam, the longer-term goal is to create a distributed network ofvalidators that support the Unimoon mainnet. While in earlydiscussions, there is a desire to reward validators specifically forkeeping the network secure. It is critical that a proper incentivestructure is created to make it worthwhile for validators toprioritize the health and positive operation of the Unimoon network.

Critical Transaction Scalability

While there are many service calls required to support clientapplications against the Unimoon network, there are a small number ofinter-client transactions that become critical to the successfulgrowth of the network. Though not exhaustive, the following are someā€œTransactions of Interestā€ the team believes will be on ourcritical-path for providing reward and activity calculations, inaddition to being areas of analysis for enhancing network scalabilityand performance:

ā— user ā€œlikeā€ of content (& propagation)ā— user ā€œviewā€ of content (& propagation)ā— user ā€œshareā€ of content (& propagation)ā— Duration of user ā€œviewā€ā— Quality of user activity history (calculation)ā— Taxonomy-related indexing of contentā— Subgraph reorganization of content preference

System Architecture

Unimoon aims to first start by providing a familiar social mediaexperience to the user community. While the goal is to provide anenjoyable and natural engagement experience, behind the scenes theUnimoon layer-1 will be responsible for recording content provenance

10

and also recording the exchange of attention between users of theUnimoon platform.

Figure 4. Unimoon Logical Architecture

With the goal of providing a next generation decentralized socialmedia experience, the Unimoon team holds no orthodoxy around cryptopurity. Using distributed system architectures and decentralizeddata structures, combined with lessons from PKI, we believe inefficiently applying blockchain technology where it benefits theusers self-sovereignty.

Key requirements of the the Unimoon L1 are:ā— High throughput and high TPS (fast finality)ā— Ability to expand the Validator/Node community over time

11

ā— Support a 3rd-party client and development ecosystemā— Support deployment of Bridges to other Mainnet/L1 networks

Based on the requirements, Unimoon is aiming to fork Solana due toits advanced consensus algorithm, Proof of History (POH), Ā²a clockbefore consensus; which helps the network validate the time oftransactions because the protocol doesnā€™t have any dependencies onlocal computer clocks between state transitions beyond the VerifiableDelay Function. The VDF requires a specific number of sequentialsteps to evaluate, yet produces a unique output that can beefficiently and publicly verified.Ā³

Figure 5. Parallel Verification

ā€œSynchronized clocks are interesting because they can be used to improvethe performance of distributed algorithms. They make it possible to replace

communication with local computation.ā€

ā€” Liskov, B. Practical uses of synchronized clocks in distributed system

The result of synchronized clocks before consensus algorithm is avery high throughput rate without sacrificing network security. Therefore, Unimoon is confident in implementing a fork of Solana as ahighly scalable blockchain that will offer the most performantfunctionality to be able to support the potential current socialmedia landscape on our Unimoon blockchain at 0 or near 0 fees.Furthermore, the average User demands and expects instant access tocontent, near instant

12

Ā³Each recorded slice can be verified from start to finish on separate cores in1/(number of cores) time it took to generate. So a modern day GPU with 4000 cores canverify a second in 0.25 milliseconds.

on chain confirmation of claimed rewards, without astronomical feesor delays in accessing/uploading content so this would be the basestandard for what Unimoon promises to deliver to create a trulyoutstanding decentralized social media user experience.

Therefore, at global scale without the proper planning andinfrastructure to support mainstream adoption it would result in hightx fees, slow confirmations to claim rewards with constant networkcongestion which would make the Unimoon platform useless. Therefore, forking Solana, initially as a permissioned layer 1 blockchain forthe Unimoon ecosystem is to support future global mainstream adoptionas the first blockchain specifically designed as a social mediaprotocol focusing on the user experience.

Tokenomics

The Unimoon token is a utility token that represents the transfer ofattention from one ecosystem participant to another. The tokenrepresents the amount of engagement and activity a particular pieceof content or media has accrued. If a user likes a particular pieceof content or media that individual user can choose to endorse andamplify the reach of that specific piece of content. The wider thereach a piece of content has, the more tokens the owners of thatcontent can receive.

While token volume will increase relative to a piece of content'spopularity, the Unimoon team sees exploratory mechanics related totoken liquidity, rewards, and content boosting.

The goal of Unimoon token mechanics is to incentivize healthy growthof content and services while creating transparency for the exchangeof human energy to nearly instant realized value distinguished by ahuman userā€™s media objectā€™s engagement curve on the network through aDeMe platform.

SAC

The social activity coefficient, or SAC, is a major ingredient in theUnimoon secret sauce. The SAC algorithm will be implemented as a setof smart contracts deployed to the Unimoon layer one. These contractsare responsible for analyzing and tracking content interactionrelative to users within the Unimoon ecosystem. The SAC, over time, will have the ability to recognize quality content and provide themechanics for users to identify that content. A piece of content willhave a higher number of plays and actions taken on a media object ifthe content distribution is favored based on users content varietythrough the systems algorithm which is mathematically evaluated. TheSAC will quantify based on the content distribution and contentvariety of the evaluated media object.

Along with self-sovereignty, Unimoon aims to enable users to berewarded for recognizing content that is popular before it becomesso. Through the use of the Unimoon token, users are able toincentivize the ecosystem to develop quality content in the hopes theplatform fosters and promotes what makes us human and does notdetract from it.

Users of Unimoon will be able to claim rewards based on the SAC valueaccrued per user straight from your social media profile dashboardwhich will be measured on every 24 hour epoch interval.

Vision and Roadmap

The Unimoon project team has an initial focus on an MVP releaseapproximately three months after launch. While the size of thecommunity will determine the set of features delivered for MVP, theminimum set of features includes a familiar social media engagementexperience integrated with the Unimoon layer-1 to track activityrelated to SAC calculations.

Future use cases are constantly being explored and considered. TheUnimoon team is excited to build out working relationships with theuser community and broader developer ecosystem in the web3 space. Some of the ideas being explored are:

ā— NFT - crowdfunding for creation projects. Exploring modelswhere advertising can subsidise minting enabling free servicesfor users.
