Section 3 SCSI Device Guidelines
Introduction This section covers SCSI channel adapters and storage device subsystems that use the wide SCSI and Ultra wide SCSI interfaces. The maximum data transfer rate for Ultra SCSI interface is 40 MB per second.
Notes:
• This section covers devices controlled by native wide SCSI (SCSI-2W) and native ultra wide SCSI (SCSI-3) channel adapters using SCSI Wide 16 protocol and referred to as "wide SCSI."
• The SCSI-2W channel adapter can be used to control a SCSI-3 device, or a SCSI-3 channel adapter can be used to control a SCSI-2W device, but the resulting connection will be SCSI-2W. Guidelines for Wide SCSI Configurations
Table 3-1 lists guidelines for wide SCSI configurations. Additional requirements, if any, are included in the subsection for each specific device.
Table 3–1. Wide SCSI Configuration Guidelines
Area Guideline
Channel Adapter Styles
The following channel adapter styles are supported:
• CA322-SCI (SCSI-2W) operating under wide SCSI protocol.
• CA332-SCI (SCSI-3) operating under wide SCSI protocol.
Channel Loading Channel loading depends on whether connectivity or throughput is the main consideration.
Refer to the ClearPath Plus Libra Model 580 Hardware Configuration Guide (6898 9748) for channel loading.
Device Types All devices on a wide SCSI bus must be capable of supporting wide SCSI.
Bus Length Maximum bus length for SCSI-2W is 80 feet (24.4 meters)
Channel IDs Channel IDs are restricted to addresses 6 and 7.

Fibre Channel PCI Adapter (FCA1850-LC) The FCA1850-LC Fibre Channel PCI adapter contains two on-board microcode sets. MCP determines which set to load during installation, according to the adapter’s designation in the partition profile.
If you designated the adapter an IOP in Configuration Editor, MCP will load the C4FC (CS Bus IV over Fibre Channel) microcode on the adapter. The IOP is used to connect to channel adapters in a channel rack for legacy storage, and to the ClearPath Network Appliance (CNA) for ODT and networking.
If you designated the adapter an FC2-IOP in Configuration Editor, MCP will load the FCP (Fibre Channel Protocol, defined as SCSI over Fibre Channel) microcode on the adapter. The FC2-IOP is used to connect directly to FC storage devices, FC switches and SAN fabrics.

Figure 4-2 illustrates the two roles of the FCA1850-LC. You will notice that the adapter has two independent FC ports. Both ports can be used, but only in the role designated in the partition profile. For instance, you can connect IOP port FC1 to a CNA and IOP port FC2 to a second CNA, or to a channel rack. You can also connect the two IOP FC ports
Fibre Channel Device Guidelines
6870 0186–000 4–5
to two channel racks. Similarly, you can use both FC2-IOP ports to connect to anything supported on an FC2-IOP. However, you cannot use one port as an IOP and the other port on the same card as an FC2-IOP port. The FCA1850-LC can only run a single microcode for both ports.
Guidelines for Installing an FCA1850-LC as Direct Attach Fibre Channel
You can install an FCA1850-LC as an FC2-IOP direct attach FC PCI adapter. To install it as a direct attach adapter, perform the following:
• Declare it as an FC2-IOP in the configuration file in Configuration Editor and generate a new profile.
• Select the IOCD level from the Firmware Management tap panel in Server Control (see Server control Client online help) to load the correct level.
• Start the partition.
Setting Up Storage Area Network Fabrics and Creating Zones
For instructions on setting up fabrics and creating zones, see ClearPath Plus Servers Libra Model 580, Libra Model 590, and FS1600 System Administration and Operations Overview (4311 1988).
Fibre Channel Disk Subsystems
ESM7700 Fibre Channel RAID Subsystem Configuration
The ESM7700 requires the use of control type OSRCTL in the PCD of the partition profile.
The following are numbering requirements for this subsystem:
• The SCSI addresses can start at 125, rather than the default 7, and work down numerically.
• The OSRCTL is a SCSI address of 0, no matter which SP port the Fiber Channel cable is plugged into.
• If you have two SCSI channels, one connected to SP A and the other connected to SP B, the two OSRCTLs are given different logical numbers, but both receive a SCSI address of 0.
• The packs outboard of the OSRCTLs are declared in the normal manner. That is, PK100 @ 0, PK101 @ 1, etc.
• The rotary SCSI address switches on the SP ports must be set to 0 on both ports (SP A and SP B).
• You can declare up to a maximum of 127 LUNs.
Fibre Channel Device Guidelines
4–6 6870 0186–000
Bringing the ESM7700/CSM7700 Online
After loading the new partition profile, you will have to bring the new units online. Initially all the new units and controls will be freed, therefore you will have to acquire them online. Once this is done, the drives will be un-initialized.
To make the drives available for MCP use, the MCP will have to recognize the architecture of the drive. Previously, this was done via PTD. Now, the following ODT command is available:
INIT PK<nnn> VSS=VSS1 <or VSS2*>
*Whether you use VSS1 or VSS2 will depend on client considerations.
Guidelines for Installing the EuroLogic JBD2000 JBOD Rack
On the Libra 580, the JBD2000 can only be connected to the host via a FCA1850-LC running FCP (FC2-IOP) microcode. The following tables describe the minimum software levels and deviations and risk assessments for configuring a JBD2000 on a Libra 580/590 and FS1600.

Table 4–4. Deviation and Risk Assessment
Deviation Risk
Low: for groups that run with default I/O time out timers of 80 seconds set this is a low risk.
With a fabric connection to the JBD2000, the I/O count goes to zero for 10 to over 15 seconds during a disk drive removal and replacement in a mirrored configuration.
Medium-High: to CAP configurations or other customer applications that require I/O timeouts occur at a maximum of ten seconds or less.
Fibre Channel Device Guidelines
6870 0186–000 4–7
Restrictions
• Host Interfaces are all optical Fibre Channel. Copper cables are only used to interconnect racks.
• Splitting the JBOD2000 racks into two loops within the same rack it not supported.
• When running on fabric and multiple Initiators are used, separate zones should be used from each initiator that overlap at the storage port so that initiators are not in the same zone. For instructions on setting up fabrics and creating zones, see ClearPath Plus Servers Libra Model 580, Libra Model 590, and FS1600 System Administration and Operations Overview (4311 1988).

CTS9840 Fibre Channel Tape Configuration
The CTS9840 requires the use of control type FCSCSIMT in the PCD of the partition profile. The maximum number of drives per channel is two due to channel bandwidth limits. The mixing of CTS9840 and ESM7700 on the same loop is not allowed. This device is not supported on the FCA1850-LC.
The CTS9840 has two FC ports on the unit. Both ports can assess the drive but not at the same time. Only one port can be used. Port A is used for even numbered addresses and Port B is used for odd numbered addresses.
CTS9840 ports use an optical cable connection. A Fiber Channel hub is required for connection of the tape unit to a FCA621-CU (Fibre Channel CA, copper).
Configure CTS9840A for Fabric
To set the CTS9840A tape drive for Fabric, perform the following.
Notes:
• The tape drive must be a CTS9840A (STK part number 312102401) and must be at a minimum firmware level of R1.30.110f to install on the fabric.
• For more information on configuring the CTS9840, refer to CTS9840 Cartridge Tape Subsystem Installation Guide (8999 5310).
1. Take the drive offline.
2. Go to the drive configuration menu for Fibre Channel.
3. Go to the Port A and B Attributes and set Hard PA=Y. This will set the drive to ports to operate in FL_Port mode.
4. Set the loop address.
• For instructions on setting up fabrics and creating zones, see ClearPath Plus Servers Libra Model 580, Libra Model 590, and FS1600 System Administration and Operations Overview (4311 1988).

Deviation Risk
Recovery actions not acceptable for cable pull test.
Low: This was detected during a fault injection test, and addresses the recovery of the CTL after connecting the cable; additional operator intervention is required after the PORT is recovered with UR and UR- commands, and to also recover the CTL with a UR and UR-.
Restrictions:
• Mixing of CTB9940, and other Fibre Channel control types on the same direct attach Loop is not allowed and restricted.
• Only one of the Fibre Channel ports on the CTB9940 can be in use. The other should be used as a hot standby only.
• Native mode on the CTB9940 is supported; the drive should not be configured to use an emulation mode.
• For Direct connect configurations one or two units for each channel are recommended. If more than one unit is used, both units must be connected to a brocade switch running quick loop mode.
• For Fabric connected configurations, the relationship of one channel to up to two units should be maintained and it is recommended that they be placed in a zone. If more channels and units are attached to the same fabric they should each be in their own zone, and the fabric bandpass needs to be designed to handle the additional units and channels.
• When the CTB9940 tape drive is used with Libra 580/590 or FS1600 fabric connections, no changes to the default sets are required, however only one unit can be used with each port on the Brocade Fibre Channel switch. Using the default options Hard PA=N is set. This places the drive in F_Port Mode.
• To run in Direct attach (Arbitrated Loop) or Fabric Loop mode with the CTB9940.
1. Take the drive offline.
2. Go to the drive configuration menu for Fibre Channel.
3. Go to the Port A and B Attributes and set Hard PA=Y. This will set the drive Ports to operate in fixed loop addressing or for fabric in FL_Port mode.
4. Set the loop address.

Fibre Channel Linear Tape-Open (LTO) Gen2 Tape Drive for CLU Libraries
Linear Tape-Open (LTO) Technology offers enterprise system environments a tape solution that addresses the performance, capacity, reliability and management issues faced when choosing a tape solution. LTO Technology is ideal in the SAN environment because it meets the special tape demands that SANs create.
Similar to digital linear tape drives (DLT), LTO drives write data tracks in a linear, serpentine fashion. When the end of the tape is reached, the heads are repositioned above or below their current location, and recording resumes in the opposite direction.
There are two Fibre Channel LTO drives supported on ClearPath enterprise servers: the CLU180-22F for CLU180 libraries and the CLU700-22F for CLU700 libraries.
Tables 4-10 and 4-11 lists the software level qualified for use with the LTO drives by system.

Section 5 Channel Rack Configuration Guidelines
Section Description This section contains information used when inserting various channel adapter boards in the remote channel rack.
Remote Channel Rack Configuration Considerations Before installing channel adapter boards, the following must be considered:
• The type of channel adapter board (see Tables 5-1 and 5-2)
• Is the remote channel rack already installed and is to be converted from 3U-to-6U size boards (See Table 5-1)? If so, then perform the 3U-to-6U conversion (See “Converting 3U Card Slots to Accept 6U Cards” in this appendix).
• Backplane bus location where the channel adapter is to be installed (see Figure 5-1 and Tables 5-3 through 5-7).
• The port that it is to be connected to.
• The maximum number of channel cards installed in a group
• Bus loading (Tables 5-1 and 5-3 through 5-5)
• 6U channel adapter boards only have active signals on the A and B bus side.
• 6U channel adapter boards do not use the bottom connector for logic signals; bottom connectors use voltage and ground pins.
• 6U Feedthru and 6U Terminator boards have active independent signals on both halves (A/B buses and C/D buses) of the board.
• A 6U Feedthru board is two-3U Feedthru boards assembled as one and a 6U Terminator board is two-3U Terminator boards assembled as one. Both boards (6U Feedthru board and 6U Terminator board) function as two separate 3U boards.

A CS bus (CSB) can support up to eight channels, numbered 1 through 8. When a CSB (system) interface card is in location A0, locations A1 through A4 correspond to channels 1 through 4. When a system interface card is in location B0, locations B5 through B8 correspond to channels 5 through 8. When the A and B buses are combined into an eight-channel bus, locations A1 through A4 correspond to channels 1 through 4 and locations B5 through B8 correspond to channels 5 through 8. The same channel numbering system applies to the C and D buses.
Bus Loading for A Series and NX Systems Channel Adapters
When configuring the channel rack, balance the channel loads of each bus to prevent system degradation of a single bus.
The following channel rack card location tables are provided to illustrate typical configurations that can be encountered.

Blank Board and Middle Support Guidelines This section provides blank board and middle support guidelines for channel rack modules styles RM5–CA3 through RM5–CA5.
Style RM5–CA3
The available number of 3U slots for this rack is 8 since the style DCS2200–BD Bus Interface Card is a 6U card and logically can only support four boards maximum per bus. The 6U refers to the width of the board which spans the entire width of the card rack and is used with two four-position middle supports, (kit number 3958 4271). Utilizing two four-position middle supports, there are 16 3U slots. All unused slots must be filled with blank boards to maintain airflow integrity. As channel cards are added to the rack, the same number of 3U blank boards are deleted (i.e. if six channel cards were added, the requirement for 3U blank boards would be 10). Unused 6U slots must be filled with a 6U blank board (kit number 3958 4297).
Styles RM5–CA4 and RM5–CA5
The maximum number for 3U cards is 20 per rack using two five position middle supports (kit number 3958 4289). Two of these slots will always be used, one for the CS Bus Interface Card and one for the first channel card. This leaves 18 slots to be filed with 3U blank boards, (kit number 3953 8335). As channel cards are added the same quantity of 3U blank boards are deleted. (i.e. if six channel cards were added, 12 blank boards would be required)
Channel Rack Configuration Guidelines

Converting 3U Card Slots to Accept 6U Cards A 3U-to-6U conversion kit must be installed before a 6U channel adapter card assembly can be inserted into the channel rack. The conversion kit (Table 5-7) converts five 3U-wide card slots in two horizontally contiguous quadrants (10 card slots total) to five 6U-wide card slots. One 6U slot (A0/C0) is used for the feedthru card, and four 6U slots are available for channel adapters. The unused slots should be filled with 6U blank cards. To complete the conversion procedure, refer to Table 5-8.

Channel Rack Configuring A channel rack module can be configured with various combinations of 3U and 6U channel adapters. These combinations are as follows:
• All 3Us
• All 6Us
• 3Us in the lower half and 6Us in the upper half
• 6Us in the lower half and 3Us in the upper half
When installing 6U Fiber Channel adapters, refer to Fibre Channel Adapter Installation and Servicing Guide (7021 2998).
The 3U quadrants and 6U halves can be configured either on individual CS buses or combined on one.
When 3Us and/or 6Us are configured on one CS bus connection, it is done using a jumper card in location AT and a terminator in location BT, with the stipulation that loading requirements are met. These configurations are as follows:
• 3U channel adapters in A quadrant and 6U channel adapters in the upper half
• 6U channel adapters in lower half and 3U channel adapters in B quadrant
• All 6U channel adapters in upper and lower halves
All unused slots should be filled with blank cards. Table 5-8 shows the conversion procedure.

Table 5–8. 3U-to-6U Channel Rack Conversion
Step Action
1 Ensure that power for the channel rack is off.
2 Before handling PCAs, connect the antistatic wrist grounding strap. Antistatic wrist straps are located inside the rear door of each UC36 cabinet. Use caution and the procedures that are in maintenance manual 4000 0036.
3 Unpack the hardware and check for damage.
4 Check that all the hardware needed for your specific installation is included in the kit.
5 Decide which location of the channel rack is to be converted to 6U.
6 If 3U PCAs exist, and reconfiguration is necessary, move existing PCAs to another 3U area.
7 From the rear of the channel rack module, remove the 5-position middle support from the channel rack location that is to be converted to 6U.
8 Populate the converted 6U area with the 6U channel adapter PCAs, according to the customer's channel addresses.
9 Install the 6UCSBTHU adapter board in either slot A0/C0 or B0/D0, or both, depending on which location(s) are being converted.
10 Fill in the unused slots with 6U blank boards.
11 Install the terminator board kit in either slot BT or AT, depending on which location is being converted.
12 Refer to the ClearPath Plus Server Libra Model 580 and 590 Hardware Installation Guide (6899 0480) for connection to the host cabinet.
