LakesLakes are large bodies ofwater surrounded by land.

Rivers are current of water that start in the mountains and run down to thelowlands.

Characteriscs of the rivers: the Course

The course is the path of the river.

The channel is the terrain a river flows through.

Upriver is nearthe source. The water

flow is small andthe river flows quickly.

Mid-river Mid-river. the waterflow is bigger and theriver flows more slowly.

Downriver. This is the base level near the mouth of the river. The water flowis the biggest and theriver flows slowly.

Subterranean waters are underground. when these waters come above theground they become fountains.

Marine waters are madeup of seas and oceans.

Coastal landscapes have:

Beaches: they are flat and have sand.

Cliffs: They are high and are made of rocks.

Capes: they are landformsthat stick out into the sea.

Gulfs are parts of the sea that cut into land.

Peninsulas: They are extensions of landthat are bigger than capes.They have thesea on all its sides except one.

Islands: They are extensions of landthat have the sea all around it. Many islands next to each otherare called archipelago.
