American Dad!

The ContentAmerican Dad! Is based around an American family and their everyday mishaps. Stan Smith, who works for the CIA and is constantly on the alert for terrorist activity. Stan will go to extremes to protect his beloved America from harm. In addition to Stan's wife and teenage children, the Smith household has two rather unusual members. There's Roger, the sarcastic space alien who rescued Stan from Area 51 who deeply resents the fact that he's not allowed to leave the house, and therefore, has been reduced to drinking wine and smoking cigarettes, and Klaus, German-speaking goldfish. The result of a CIA experiment gone seriously wrong where the CIA tried to give a fish a German man's brain. Stan's son is a dorky teenager who tries to be cool. His wife has had a past life of sex and drugs.

Stan Smith the main character of American Dad! a CIA agent. Stan is Francine's husband and Hayley and Steve's father. Roger is an alien who lives in the Smith family's attic. Both these characters are voiced by Seth MacFarlane.

Klaus Heissler was once an East German Olympic ski-jumper until his mind was transferred into the body of a goldfish during the 1986 Winter Olympics by the CIA to prevent him from winning the gold medal, leaving him permanently trapped in the goldfish's body. He lives in a fishbowl in the Smiths home. He is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.

Francine Smith, Stan's wife and mother of Steve and Hayley. Francine is an enabler, usually going along with the actions of the family, though she occasionally serves as the voice of reason. She is voiced by Wendy Schaal.

The Cast and Characters

Haley Smith, Stan and Francine's daughter. She is eighteen and attends a community college. She is portrayed as ultra-liberal, which often brings her into conflict with her father. She is voiced by Rachael MacFarlane.

Steve Smith, Stan and Francine's fourteen-year-old son. He is a geek, which Stan does not like. He has also come into conflict with Stan, who wants Steve to follow in his footsteps. He is voiced by Scott Grimes.

The Cast and Characters

The StructureAmerican Dad! Always starts with the same intro of Stan singing “Good Morning U.S.A”. It shows his normal morning and when he goes to work. The episodes always start with a little story to throw you off track and then goes into the real story of the episode. The episodes usually have a problem which the family have to deal with. By the end, the problem is dealt with and the family goes back to normal.

The Language StyleAmerican Dad! Is aimed at young adults, as it uses situational humour and it uses jokes with lack of meaning that are so absurd to the point of it being humorous. The language used is informal.
