BASIC ELEMENTS OF VISUAL
EXPRESSION
The fundamental elements of the visual arts are: the dot, the
line, the plane, the texture and colour.
Las tres dimensiones del volumen son:
Width - anchura
Height - altura
Depth - profundidad
![Page 3: Unit 2 basic elements (teoría)](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052601/558cca5dd8b42a92468b4613/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
THE DOT
Es el elemento más simple y pequeño. Indica una posición
fija.
The dot is the smallest, simplest element in visual
expression.
naranja).
![Page 4: Unit 2 basic elements (teoría)](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052601/558cca5dd8b42a92468b4613/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
EXPRESSIVE CAPACITY
As a creator of lines.
As a composing element. Concentration and dispersion.
As the centre of attention or an indication.
As an element to create the sense of depth.
![Page 5: Unit 2 basic elements (teoría)](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052601/558cca5dd8b42a92468b4613/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
TRIDIMENSIONAL CAPACITY
Puntos pequeños – más lejos
Puntos grandes – más cerca
Puntos concentrados – más cerca
Puntos dispersos – más lejos
![Page 6: Unit 2 basic elements (teoría)](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052601/558cca5dd8b42a92468b4613/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)

THE DOT: MOSAICOS
THE DOT: IMPRESIONISTAS
THE DOT: PUNTILLISTAS
THE DOT: ROBERT DELAUNAY
THE DOT: ROY LICHTENSTEIN
comics.
![Page 12: Unit 2 basic elements (teoría)](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052601/558cca5dd8b42a92468b4613/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
THE DOT: YAKOI KUSAMA

UNIT 2 BASIC ELEMENTS OF VISUAL
EXPRESSION
![Page 14: Unit 2 basic elements (teoría)](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052601/558cca5dd8b42a92468b4613/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
THE LINE
Trazo creado por un punto en movimiento.
In visual expression, line is defined as a dot in motion.
Tiene posición y dirección. Su principal función es delimitar
el contorno de las formas.
![Page 15: Unit 2 basic elements (teoría)](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052601/558cca5dd8b42a92468b4613/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
THE LINE
textura.
Structural Characteristics: Shape, thickness, colour and
texture.
permiten crear diferentes sensaciones.
![Page 16: Unit 2 basic elements (teoría)](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052601/558cca5dd8b42a92468b4613/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Classification
Simples: un solo trazo. Recto o curvo
Simple lines: Straight and curved.
![Page 17: Unit 2 basic elements (teoría)](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052601/558cca5dd8b42a92468b4613/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Classification
Líneas horizontales – horizontal lines
Líneas verticales – vertical lines
Líneas oblícuas – oblique lines

![Page 18: Unit 2 basic elements (teoría)](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052601/558cca5dd8b42a92468b4613/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Classification
Compuestas (Composite lines ): varios fragmentos.
Dashed line: línea de trazos
Dotted line: línea de puntos
Wavy line: ondulada (varios fragmentos de líneas curvas)
Zigzag line: quebrada (varios fragmentos rectos)

rectas)
![Page 19: Unit 2 basic elements (teoría)](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052601/558cca5dd8b42a92468b4613/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
EXPRESSIVE CAPACITY
Vertical lines: movimiento ascendente o descendente.
Sensación de crecimiento, elevación y equilibrio.
![Page 20: Unit 2 basic elements (teoría)](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052601/558cca5dd8b42a92468b4613/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)

THE PLANE
The plane is defined as a surface with two dimensions: height
and width.
It is infinite but it can be delimited.

Producen orden
y estabilidad. Hay tres básicas: square, triangle and circle
![Page 29: Unit 2 basic elements (teoría)](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052601/558cca5dd8b42a92468b4613/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
