One of the ways that we often use personal writing is in communicating thoughts, concerns, ideas, and goals to those closest to us.
•In this journal, imagine that a friend, family member or personal acquaintance is thinking about returning to school to further his or her education or training.
Then, share what kind of personal document would be best for communicating this information.
•For example, would an email or a letter be more effective?
Once you have decided on a format, please write the personal document.
•What encouragement would you give him or her?
•Based on your own experience, what challenges might he or she face?
•What suggestions would you make about time management and setting goals?

Locate an article relevant to you and your field of
study.
Read the article and apply what you have learned about effective reading
and writing to take notes/complete a pre-
writing.
Using appropriate language for writing
personal documents to complete the following
Assignment.
Imagine that you have created a blog where you post about various issues
important to you and others studying in your
field.
•Write a 1 and 1/2 page double spaced blog post that educates your audience about an issue that the article you selected raises.
•Make sure you provide your audience with the author's name, title and a link to the article as well as a summary of relevant information from the article, but go beyond summary.
•Your submission should be organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraph(s) and conclusion.
•Utilize the 5-minute video from the KU Writing Center to format your paper
•Add to what the author says in some way (one way to do that is to disagree, or engage in debate, or explore a point further than it is addressed in the article).
•Be sure that you make clear to your audience why the issue you are informing them about is relevant to them in some way.
•For example, if you have a family member with a disease like diabetes, you might want to write a blog post explaining what you have learned about the importance of a healthy diet.

What if YOU wanted to share your knowledge this way?
What would your blog look like? What topics would you cover? How could you develop a group
of followers who read and benefit from what you have to say?
Do a Google search for blogs in your field
What did you find?
Who are these bloggers, what do they write
about, and what is their value?
What do they look like, focus on, and how do
you think the posts are created?
How can following blogs on topics you are
interested in and that are in your field be helpful
and educational?

You are creating a blog entry. You do not have to build a full blog or actually post to a blog. Rather, you are writing a post as if you would post it.
