PR9 Sourcing Images

To complete this task you will need:

• At least ONE found image

• Knowledge of an organisation that can grant you permission to use the image in your creative work

• The name of the individual or organisation that owns the copyright to the image

For example….• https://jazzinphoto.files.wordpress.com/2013/1

1/kurt-cobain-1991-photo-michel-linssen-getty-archive.jpg

This image of Kurt Cobain was taken in 1991 by MichelLinssen and is licenced by Getty Archive

If you would like to use this image, you would need to get permission fromGetty Images, as well as writing the words Getty Archive on the photo in small caseIn the bottom right or left corner. If the original copyright owner, i.e. the photographer still owns the work and has not licensed the work to an organisation such as Getty, you need to seek permission from the original photographer and also quote the source in the same way.

To find out how to gain permission, follow the link to

‘Copyright Hub’

If it’s unclear who owns the imageyou can use Copyright Hub to find out the owner by doing an image search

Now use the rest of these slides (7,8,9) to answer the following questions and demonstrate how you would ask for permission to use sourced images

Save these THREE slides only from this presentation and post to your blog asPR9: Sourcing Images

1. What is copyright and what doesit protect?

It is created by the law so that the creator of a piece of work that they have created gets the exclusive rights to its use and distribution.

2. How can you use ‘Copyright Hub’ to get permission to use images?

3. What are the organisations that you can contact to gain access to use images legally?

They give information on people to contact about how to get right to use different things from; music, images, text, video and multimedia. It also allows you to find the owner of the image by using a tool called picscout which is a software that lets you upload an image and it gives you the author of that work.

There are a few organisations you can contact such as; BAPLA, BBC picture library, gettyimages and DACS Database, this is good because there is a range of organisations with different ways to use images legally.

I found this on a website that allowed me to download the image in a different amount of sizes which was good because I was able to find a decent size to use for my front cover. Source :- http://www.hdwallpapers.in/geralt_of_rivia_in_the_witcher_3_wild_hunt-wallpapers.html
