• Zheng He – 7 Voyages: visited SE Asia, India, Middle East & East Africa; when he returned to China they decided to be isolationists (NO need for foreign goods or influence)

• ETHNOCENTRISM – feeling of superiority

• Relations w/ the West: little to no contact
