1. ERA

a memorable or important date or event; especially : one that begins a new period in the history of a person or thing

2. COLONY

A new settlement or territory established and governed by a country in another land.

3. ABSOLUTE CHRONOLOGY Referring to an exact date For example: Jamestown was established

in 1607.

4. RELATIVE CHRONOLOGY Referring to an approximate date. For example: Jamestown was established

in the 1600’s.

5. CHARTER

A document that gives the holder the right to organize settlements in an area.

For example: All new colonies were chartered on behalf of England.

6. JOINT STOCK COMPANY

A company in which investors buy stock in the company in return for a share of its future profits.

7. PILGRIM

Separtists who journeyed to the colonies during the 1600’s for a religious purpose

To treat someone harshly because of that person’s beliefs or practices.

A formal document, written in 1620, that provided law and order to the Plymouth colony.

People who wanted to purify the English church.

Puritans wanted to simplify the church’s ceremonies and its ranks of authority.

11. Representative Government A colony or country where the people are

given the right to vote for a representative law- maker.

12. IMMIGRANT

A person who moves from one country to live in another.

Such a movement is called immigration

People who believed in a simple lifestyle and in treating all people equally.

Export- to sell goods abroad. Exported cars= Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford
